Title: E3M4
Description: HOW!?
slimeinator - January 5, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
 My friend and I are veteran mappers, who have had a couple years of experience, and we are still stumped as to how you managed to pull the fourth level of the third episode off. IT'S JUST A TWO SECTOR BOX!!!!!! How did you do it, xbolt!?
Replica - January 5, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
He did it with scripting... I think
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 05:26 AM (GMT)
With my computer zapped, could some one enlighten me as to why this is a feat to be questioned? Whats it look like?
slimeinator - January 5, 2008 05:27 AM (GMT)
The actual E3M4 level looks like a box made out of two triangles. None of the lines have effects, and the only thing in it is the player one start.
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 05:30 AM (GMT)
E3m4...the city thing level? (with the trap and quadrumpus?) or the thing with the fog in the canyon or another level entirely? I remember looking at all maps after playing it to see what goodies I might have missed. I never saw a level like that.
slimeinator - January 5, 2008 05:31 AM (GMT)
It's the ship thingy where Ultimus appears for the second time.
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 05:37 AM (GMT)
Ohh...WAIT A SECOND!?!? The Goop? Oh ho, oh no. Thats a map. What are you opening it in? XWE or DooM Builder? I was trying to see how he did that map to get some help with cutscenes and mapping (eventhough that wasn't the best map in the world...) and I coppied the entire outside of the ship to try a mapping project. Hmm...try looking at all the levels. He skipped some for some reason, and the box with the player start, thats his dummy sector that he starts you in so you can view the cutscene. Blank maps he filled with the skip level script and two sectors to make one box that all 4 players start in.

Doom Builder. And I used my magical "Play Test" button to test it, and it turned up to be the ship. And I saw the texture of the little box thing for a split second.
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 05:47 AM (GMT)
Hmm...This could be your comp slowing down the transition between levels and you saw the room in the empty map. Explore either e3m5 or m6 and see if the ship is there. Or, check out the script of e3m4. It should say like 'console command map E3Mx' or something, saying the level just skips to E3Mx.
slimeinator - January 5, 2008 05:51 AM (GMT)
I checked the script, and it has no script line similar to what you have stated.
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 05:53 AM (GMT)
Well, what is there? If there is a camera script, and the little dialogue in the cut scene, I might believe xbolt somehow created a level totaly scripted from one box.
slimeinator - January 5, 2008 05:55 AM (GMT)
The script is too long to post, so I PMed you.
atariangamer - January 5, 2008 06:06 AM (GMT)
answer pmed back at cha, but posted here for explanation.
consolecmd = map e3m5 -noresetplayers
This line of code in the very start of the script automaticaly sends the player (without reseting his health, ammo, weapons) to level e3m5 (the goop level). I knew xbolt left holes in his map structure. E3m5's script will contain all the cutscene for the goop.
Mob720 - January 7, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Man! If only I knew that command when I asked Xbolt for it. He said he didn't know. I had to change my level structure because of that.
atariangamer - January 7, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
heh, I know fragglescript. I can interpret code into plain english very well. I am just horrible with writing it.
xbolt - January 7, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)
Heh, I go away for a few days, and I find people asking questions, and getting answers without my involvement! The nerve! :P
Anyway, yeah, what Atariangamer said. E3M4 is just a box that warps the player to E3M5. And Mob, weren't you asking for a command like that, but still had the intermission screen? I thought that was what you wanted... If not, sorry!
Mob720 - January 7, 2008 11:23 PM (GMT)
Oh wait, yeah that's what I wanted, what you just said Xbolt...
No one heard anything about the question...
