Title: My input on TUCQ
Description: How awesome it is, controls, suggestions

PatPeter - November 26, 2007 09:38 PM (GMT)
Alright TUCQ is one of the greatest, if not the greatest mod I have ever played for any video game. You have the Programming console (~), you merged both games together, you are making more levels in more games like Trail of a Cereal Killer, etc.

And I love the "jump" feature it makes the sewers a lot less annoying. These controls are pretty similar to the ones I have for Project 64, an N64 emulator for PC:

w = forward
s = backward
a = strafe left
d = strafe right
space = jump
p = look up
; = look down
l = turn left
' = turn right
ctrl = fire
shift = run

I think those are good, unless you could or did make it (and I skipped over it) where fire is mouse 1 but looking and turning is on the mouse axi.

I actually had good suggestions but I forgot them, back to playing T.U.C.Q.!

Anyway to get rid of the grey bar at the bottom of the screen when you start T.U.C.Q?

When you first start it and it says "Single Player and Multiplayer" in red, you should just make both those green for uniformity, and reserve red for unclickable titles, like when you click Single Player and it says Single Player at the top in red but you can't click it.

Manny Cav - November 26, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
You've loaded the game incorrectly if you see a gray bar and red text like that. You're not even playing TUCQ.

The_Green_Avenger - November 26, 2007 10:07 PM (GMT)
Actually, though I haven';t done it in a while, that sounds like you may hav either started just the IWAD without TUCQ, but you say you have the episodes. The only other thing i can think of is using TUCQ in sofware mode, but Iu've never seen it do that. They were green...

Manny Cav - November 26, 2007 10:14 PM (GMT)
He definitely started Doom Legacy with the doomu.wad IWAD, but without the TUCQ PWAD.

The_Green_Avenger - November 26, 2007 10:20 PM (GMT)
He got the new episode selection sscreens, and as I remember, they were not included in the original Chex Quest. He did SOMETHING wrong.

Manny Cav - November 26, 2007 10:26 PM (GMT)
Oh, I missed that. He got the new episode names but red text for the "Single Player" and "Multiplayer." That's very odd. I'll have to research how this is possible, or what PatPeter did wrong to cause this....

atariangamer - November 28, 2007 01:53 PM (GMT)
In one case, a pwad I added didn't replace the things that it was supposed to. Like it got split and loaded differently. I don't know, but the key config was one for two hands (mostly left handered people). I am right handed, there fore my right is on the arrow keys, my left on shift and control, the thumb on space, and my right thumb on jump.

I was pretty sure I replaced the Single Player and Multiplayer graphics.

The last time I played TUCQ, you did replace them. It might be an error in your combination TUCQ/Legacy download, because I downloaded Phase 2 Beta 3 of TUCQ separate and by itself, and never encountered any problems.

i donwloaded the set up version no problems except if i start it with just chex not tucq

If you are running from the launcher, you have to start from the "Single Map" tab. It is what will add T.U.C.Q..

There are also two batch files included. Running either of these will add T.U.C.Q.. Running the OpenGL version is the better choice.

Super Chex - November 29, 2007 12:48 AM (GMT)
I did those controlls for GZDoom. It will hopefully be released before Christmas Eve... ;)

Replica - November 29, 2007 12:49 AM (GMT)
... I hope you know boingo has switched to Gzdoom...

Manny Cav - November 29, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
The GZDoom version of TUCQ has not been released yet, though.

PatPeter - December 2, 2007 03:12 AM (GMT)
Yay! I did something wrong!

It did seem a little messy to be the real version, like almost every single texture on most of the maps say:

"Change it!" or "Change this!" over the original texture in red.

And a couple of the flemoids bleed red blood.

I'll redownload and reinstall it.

Boingo the Clown - December 2, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
"CHANGE ME!" is written on some of the textures to remind me to do exactly that.

I was reproducing a number of the textures with names that were more logical than the originals. Since the new and old textures look exactly the same, I added "CHANGE ME!" to the old versions as an aid to help me find the old ones and replace them with the new versions.

The flemoids should not bleed red blood. That is something I changed all the way back in Phase I.

Are you using Legacy or GZDooM?

If you are trying to use GZDooM, then that will probably be the cause of the red blood. I have not released a GZDooM version of T.U.C.Q. yet, and you will likely get a lot of errors.

PatPeter - December 3, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
No I am using Legacy, its weird that I have all these problems I have tried re-downloading and re-extracting the files multiple times.

Boingo the Clown - December 3, 2007 11:06 PM (GMT)
The walls with "CHANGE ME!" written on them are not an error. As noted above, they are there intentionally to aid me in my editing. They will eventually be eliminated as development continues.

I will have to see some screen shots and explanations before I can fully answer you, because I do not know exactly what you mean.

PatPeter - December 9, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
How do you take screenshots for Chex Quest?

I think I know why I was getting the grey bar and the weird menus, I was clicking the exe s instead of the bat. They are still aspects to check into though, may be something to improve in some way.

How do you take screenshots for Chex Quest?

Assuming that you are referring to the original Chex Quest and that you're running it in DosBOX, you load it up like you usually do, only instead of ending it with "C:\Chex\chex.exe," you end it with "C:\Chex.chex.exe -devparm." Then, you just press F1 during game play to take screen shots. However, they come out as PCX images, so you'll need something that can handle that.

Replica - December 9, 2007 07:21 PM (GMT)
Or hit the print screen botten above the "Insert key" ;)

Manny Cav - December 9, 2007 07:24 PM (GMT)
The "Prt Scr" button won't take a direct screen shot, though, just a screen shot of the entire screen. However, if you are in full-screen mode in DosBOX, then "Prt Scr" will work.

atariangamer - December 9, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
-devparam? what is it? what can you do with it?

Look here for more information on command line parameters for Chex Quest/Doom. ;)

PatPeter - December 13, 2007 05:24 AM (GMT)
Being TUCQ I am using DooM legacy I think, so how do I take pictures with that.

Boingo the Clown - December 13, 2007 12:40 PM (GMT)
Just use the Print Screen button and paste into any paint program.

That's what I do.

or ...

Use ~ to pull down the control panel and type in ...

bind p screenshot

Then use ~ again to get rid of the control panel

Now whenever you press p a screen shot will automatically be saved to the Legacy directory. Depending on the mode you are in, it will either be PCX, TGA or PNG.

Hmmm I don't think its working, whenever I take a screenshot with the Print Screen button most of the picture is black.

I tried the bind once and don't think it worked.

So when I click "Legacy.exe" or "laucher.exe" i gives me RED MENUS for SINGLE PLAYER and MULTIPLAYER like this:

SP

New Game (is green)

KNEE-DEEP IN THE DEAD
THE SHORES OF HELL
INFERNO
THY FLESH CONSUMED

So yeah they are remnants of doom, what is the creature that appears invisible in the DooM levels? LOL I started up one and was met with a series of annoying invisible enemies.

Also ever seen a Flembrane move to meet you? LOL!

But yeah for future stages I would look into this, just launch LEGACY.EXE and see what happens.

Replica - December 15, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
Thats the original Chex.wad. Your just playing the Doom levels after the "5" levels.
Click the Play_TUCQ_IN_OPENGL(OR SOFTWARE).bat to play TUCQ

Manny Cav - December 15, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
Replica is absolutely right. You are not playing TUCQ by any means.

PatPeter - December 22, 2007 05:29 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, I figured that out. It is just fun facing moving flembranes and invisible enemies!

atariangamer - December 22, 2007 01:55 PM (GMT)
In tucq's latest release, the flembrane is replaced with some slime pilliars.

If you think that invisible enemies are fun...play the second episode eighth level on the 3rd difficulty setting. Then tell me if its fun.
