Title: Announcement:
Description: Making it Official
Boingo the Clown - November 11, 2007 06:58 PM (GMT)
The general consensus is now well known, and so I think it is time to make the official announcement.
The main development of The Ultimate Chex Quest will now be switched over from DooM Legacy to GZDooM. There will continue to be a Legacy version, and Legacy 1.42, but GZDooM will now be the main port for T.U.C.Q..
This means the "No more betas for Phase II" staement I made earlier is no longer true, since the conversion over to GZDooM will require more betas.
Replica - November 11, 2007 07:20 PM (GMT)
Awsome! Glad you switched.
Manny Cav - November 11, 2007 07:49 PM (GMT)
I can't wait for the next beta! :)
Replica - November 11, 2007 09:26 PM (GMT)
Also, if Gzdoom goes slow for you guys. (Like it does to my crapy windows 98.)
go into Zdooms consle, type Vid_renderer 0. the 3d floors/ water wont appear. but its better than nothing. ;)

Quick question, are you going to keep the Cacodemon replacement you made, or are you going to use the new one that Chuck made?
Manny Cav - November 12, 2007 02:05 PM (GMT)
I don't think Boingo ever made a Cacodemon replacement. Strife did, though. I believe that the Flemoid Gyro was intended to be a Lost Soul replacement.

Arg, now we'll have to write up a new topic on getting the bleeding thing to work, so that all the newbies can ignore it ^_^
Glad to hear it, since GZDooM has everything you've been wanting from Legacy that hasn't been delivered.

I'm lost. That didn't explain any thing.
Manny Cav - November 12, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
I'll let Boingo say anything more. :)

That is correct. The Flemoidus Gyro is a lost soul replacement. The sprites were attached to the caco as a test, because I only had one rotation of sprites done, and the caco only uses one sprite rotation for its movement. It was just a quick and dirty test.
When the Flemoidus Gyro is finished, it will have have a rather chaotic bobbing motion for its main animation. The bobbing is supposedly because the tiny helicopter strapped to his back has barely enough power to keep him aloft.

Are you going to use Strifes Flemoid for the caco as well?
Anonymous - November 13, 2007 09:29 PM (GMT)
I'm wootin', and I'm darn tootin'!
I have a reason to get GZDoom now!
atariangamer - November 16, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
Does anyone know if there will be a GZDooM TUCQ Doom Builder config? I can't even find one for plain doom.
Replica - November 16, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
It just jumped over, so their isn't one.
atariangamer - November 19, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
I said will be. But is there one for just plain doom? I can't edit with 3d floors in the zdoom config...
Zorcher - December 1, 2007 03:45 AM (GMT)
I'm glad to hear that TUCQ has been switched over to GZDoom. The ZDoom project is extremely reliable and once you become familiar with DECORATE, that allows control over how the flemoids actually behave (And you should be able to mimic their original behavior in Chex Quest since DECORATE is powerful =D), and you can make your own items, it should eventually get better with time.
Still anxiously waiting for any progress, but yeah, its hard at the same time too. Doing things yourself all the time delays the project a lot, its the same with mine.

There is not one for plain DooM per sé, but Phase 1 should work in any source port that supports internal DEHackEd patches, which means pretty much all of them.

Yes. T.U.C.Q. has been in a rut for the last year and a half, mainly due to my interest in my other main project, DeiMWolf, which in turn has been held up mainly by my need for physical props for photography.
I am trying to get things going now with the switch over to GZDooM, but I just started a new job three weeks ago, and I am having difficulty budgeting my time so that I can get some decent work on it. For example, it is Saturday morning right now, and instead of watching cartoons like all good people should, I am getting ready to run out the door in order to help move boxes and shelving from the current workplace over to the new location. I am definitely working on T.U.C.Q.. Progress is just going to be painfully slow and clumsy for a while until I get my act together is all.
Strife - January 10, 2008 06:34 PM (GMT)
I'm looking forward to trying out TUCQ in GZDoom. ^_^ I've played Doom mods in ZDoom and I really love all of its features (especially the ultra-smooth frame rate and DECORATE), so it's going to be cool to see how GZDoom expands Chex Quest.
DECORATE is really awesome for creating new monsters and objects beyond the limit set by Doom. I've seen some really awesome things done with DECORATE tags and scripting, including new weapons with completely different behaviors and new powerups.
Lucius Octavion - January 10, 2008 08:19 PM (GMT)
Nice to see you around, Strife. How's things going? :)
The TUCQ conversion should be awesome in gzdoom. With the decorate stuff, new flemoids can be made with unique properties. So, we could even make different monsters with unique properties.
Replica - January 10, 2008 11:01 PM (GMT)
Their are many things posible. You can have a zorch that shoots lock on missles, or a zorch can (like a gernade. theese examples are from CQ3)
@Boingo i've made some Weapons in zdoom. I'll post pics if you would like to see them...

Things are going really good so far. ^_^ I start my first-ever job on the 28th, along with the next semester of college.
Anyway, i've seen a lot of great weapons made with DECORATE. There was this one weapon in a Sonic TC which fired a straight laser beam that cut through all of the monsters in front of you (until it ran into a wall). Something like that would pwn as a zorch weapon!
Boingo has stated previously that he has no plans to include additional weapons, but it would be interesting to see what other people can come up with in their own wads. ^_^

QC is on hiatus right now, since i'm already working on too many game projects. But I may revive it someday.
I shall try not to get off-topic here anymore. ^^;

Mob720 - January 11, 2008 02:12 AM (GMT)
Strife's back!!!
Glad your here. Stick around some more, would you?
I also think TUCQ on GZdoom would be great, seeing there are many possibilities with that engine.

Sweet Christmas, Mob's back, too!
I agree with the GZDoom possibillity thing.
