Loremaster - August 7, 2007 01:39 AM (GMT)
Tripod.com is a good one, especially if you don't know HTML. And yeah, you can link me [despite the fact I haven't updated in years]
Master of Nachos - August 7, 2007 01:40 AM (GMT)
Freewebs is good. Sometimes...
Replica - August 7, 2007 01:42 AM (GMT)
freewebs is easy, but very annoying at times. what is the web for? i could help you work it, though Manny would probably be more helpful ;)
Manny Cav - August 7, 2007 01:44 AM (GMT)
I'm on
Site Sled (possibly pending a change in the near future). However, you need to know HTML to make pages. If you don't know what HTML is, then that's probably not for you. I hear that
Tripod is good hosting and has great download speeds. However, the text editor there did not meet my approval, to say the least. It doesn't give you as much freedom as
Freewebs. Plus, Freewebs also has more space and, most likely, more bandwidth. Make a decision based on what's best for you, your site, and your visitors.

im gonna sound stupid but what is html

If you don't know, then you're definitely going to want free web hosting with a site builder option. Again, Tripod is good, but I actually prefer Freewebs, if, for no other reason, for the more flexible and easier-to-use text editor, and the higher space and bandwidth limits. Plus, they've got easy to use and install add-ons, or "widgets," to add additional features to your site.

This has become intense computer Discussion. I'm moving this into the Computer Discussion section. ^_^

Anyway what they're saying is, just use freewebs even though their server crashed once and wiped out a lot of the websites.
Boingo the Clown - August 8, 2007 02:02 PM (GMT)
I got fed up with free servers and paid for space on IX Web hosting . $120.00 US every two years with a free domain name.
Free servers spam the living merde out of you and your visitors, and give you spyware. I hate going to a web site and having to either close 20 pop ups or search for the actual web page somewhere within all the advertisements.

I can't say I've ever had any of this to happen to me, either as an admin or a guest.

HTML stands for hypertext markup language. Don't let the confusing name turn you off. It's actually quite easy to understand. Basically, it's the language the internet uses to tell your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) what to display on your screen.
Here's an easy, free way to get started.
Manny Cav's recommendation that requires HTML knowledge would be the best bet if you follow my advise. Use Kompozer (http://kompozer.sourceforge.net/) to design a website word processor style (looks like Microsoft Word). No knowledge of HTML required. Then, just upload the files to your host.
Manny Cav - August 8, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
Templates like on Freewebs are easy to use, but they're copywritten. I prefer to make my own pages. Freewebs doesn't even let you make your own pages, I believe.
And, Richie, would you go as far as to say that Kompozer is better than FrontPage?

No. Frontpage is definitely better. I'm recommending Kompozer because it's free. Frontpage is still expensive (even though they no longer maintain it).
@pikazec2012 - It's working for me. Try clicking
this.

I can assure you that this does not contain a virus. It's open source software. That means that the code is freely available for people to see and edit. You have nothing to worry about in that regard. I can understand the dial-up thing, though. Dial-up is ssslllooowww.

amen i have begged my parents for wirless but my dad chose for him and my mom to pay for cellphones over wireless this is so NOT fair to me cause i dont get a phone and yes i know im fusing but im tierd and my ac i out so my life is missrible
Manny Cav - August 10, 2007 03:22 AM (GMT)
You could download it anyway. I imagine the download would take around an hour or mabey 40 minutes or so. You'll probably want a download already compiled (labeled as a binary).
If you really don't want to download it, or can't figure it out, you could try Freewebs as a last resort.

I hear you, brother. The whole AC being out thing is very known to me. My room is in an attic, so cold air (and only cold air) escapes within seconds. When I turn my AC off, it literally takes thirty seconds for the room to get volcanic.
High speed internet is actually about the same price as dial-up. Verizon Online DSL has a plan that I believe is only $15 to $20 dollars a month. It also comes with a free modem. I don't know how you live with dial-up.
Manny Cav - August 10, 2007 02:37 PM (GMT)
I have good A/C, but I don't use it hardly at all due to the knobs being so hard to turn. It's scratched up my fingers up pretty good. Instead, I opt to sweat bullets in the heat of summer.
As for dail-up, I've learned to "live with it," so to speak. It hasn't stopped me from doing 40 MB downloads that take 4 to 5 hours to complete. The KompoZer download shouldn't hurt you at all.

You're on dial-up? Dang! That sucks!
pikazec2012 - August 10, 2007 06:32 PM (GMT)
not only am i on dial up im on slow computer
@manny it took me 52 minutes to download one of your games i think it was the final chex quest and it was about 1/2 the size of this download
Manny Cav - August 10, 2007 07:15 PM (GMT)
First of all, do you even want KompoZer?
xbolt - August 10, 2007 07:52 PM (GMT)
I've also learned to cope somewhat with dial-up. For REALLY big files, I use a download manager that supports resuming, and download the file over a period of several days. (Technically nights)

Actually, you can make your own layouts. When registering, you can select "HTML only mode", which allows you to build yoursite however you want with HTML.
Manny Cav - August 11, 2007 02:41 AM (GMT)
Actually, you can also change your account type after registering to "HTML only" mode. However, what I was saying is that I knew of no way to, say, make your own web files in FrontPage or KompoZer and to upload them to Freewebs in a manner where those pages would be used for the homepage, etc.

hey guys i think i might have front page does it come with microsoft office???
Manny Cav - August 11, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Yes, Microsoft FrontPage is a part of the Microsoft Office package. What is the title of the program you suspect to be FrontPage?

idk i just installed microsoft office 2003 teacher and student today and i thought i might have it
Manny Cav - August 11, 2007 03:22 AM (GMT)
You might not have it. Check your installed programs for something similar to "Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003."
Richie - August 11, 2007 03:23 AM (GMT)
Frontpage is part of the Microsoft Office brand, but I don't believe it comes with it. I could be wrong, though.
pikazec2012 - August 11, 2007 03:24 AM (GMT)
ah yet i dont but i found a folder from 2000 with it in it but yet i deleted everything eexcept the folder that says frontpage 2000
pikazec2012 - August 13, 2007 03:51 AM (GMT)

Manny Cav - August 13, 2007 04:05 AM (GMT)
You probably registered to my temporary forums. Right now, it has no way of knowing you didn't register at Freewebs itself. So yeah. Just go to
http://members.freewebs.com to see if you've got an account there and a website builder.
