If you play another that I have not heard of, please post it here and I will add it to the list...
My favorite is Allegiance by Microsoft
It's very fun... Check it out...

even though i dont play ti anymore, i'd cast my vote for runescape

As far as MMO's go, I started with Runescape (not too pretty, oddly enough, good gameplay), and went on to: Ragnarok on a cracked server (pretty, but no substance), Regnum Online (still needs work), Planeshift (needs a lot of work), and of course World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft was actually... really awesome, but not worth my time or money, so I quit.
For the horde!

I'm going to be VERY clear about this:
Runescape and Maple Story SUCK! THEY SUCK (expletive) SO MUCH!
Lego Universe doesn't look too bad.
I play Blockland.

Quarkz - August 2, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
rs is bad NOW, when i started four and a half years ago, it was teh 1337

the doom games aren't Massive Multiplayer Online, as they only allow what, 32 or 64 players?
I'm waiting for Earth Eternal to come out. Free MMO from Ironrealms, same people who made excellent text based adventure MMOs.
Also there's Silkroad Online. I have that on my laptop, it's also free. It's fun, but laggy on weekends.

You have just made the BIGGEST understatement of the day so far, Mr. Loremaster.

lol @ having my saying thrown back at me.
Well, unless you've got thousands playing in a single game at once [and I mean humans, not bots] then it's not MMO. that first M means MASSIVE for a reason.
BTW, how many can play at once nowadays? I haven't DeathMatched in ages.

I smelled a large scent of sarcasm from your statement. It may have been the meatloaf in the kitchen, but it sure seemed like dry sarcasm to me. 64 players seems like a lot to me, but I figure that with some of these fancy multiplayer games, there's probably more than that in a game.

i've never played but my sisters bf say that star wars galaxy is awsome
BTW im not sure if its a mmo

No, no sarcasm. MMO stands for Massive Multiplayer Online.
World of Warcraft is the perfect example. You have THOUSANDS of players on a single server, all playing in the same game at the same time.

I know what MMO stands for.
I'm used to older games that only allow 8 at a time, or so. So, when I hear of 64 players at once, it sounds like "Massive Multiplayer Online" to me. When you said that the Doom games aren't MMOs, but said they did 64 (or 32) players at once, I assumed that your saying they aren't MMOs was sarcasm.

I hear ya. I grew up in that age too. But I never had net so I never got to play multiplayer, except the occasional direct modem connection, which was a pain since every once in awhile I answered the phone and was on the receiving end of a Handshake. Me poor ears....
But like I said, I'm looking forward to Earth Eternal. www.eartheternal.com

Well, I don't play an MMOs.
But online I really enjoy True Combat: Elite, which is a mod of Enemy Territory. In fact it feels better than an real game, because it was made by gamers that actually listen to what the community says to do. Very realistic gameplay and scalable graphics.

Silkroad looks interesting... looks like it's Ubuntu friendly too. I might have to try it out!
Loremaster - August 3, 2007 09:09 PM (GMT)
It's fun, but the class system is....... confusing at best. I actually created a throwaway character just to figure it out. But I enjoyed playing as a chick so much that I've yet to throw her away ^_^
She's REALLY good at ice magic.
The game's one real weakness is that you have to do alot of meaningless fighting in order to level up enough to SURVIVE some quests. I think the call it XP farming or Grinding? I don't remember. But it seems to be a trait common to MMOs.
Also, despite having been called MMORPGs, there's precious little roleplay going on in them. Seems like nobody talks in character on those things.

Star Wars galaxies is an MMo, and from what I hear, it SUCKS!
The guy who writes PvP is a HUGE Star Wars fan (I think I might be a couple of people under his name), and he HATES it.
Loremaster - August 3, 2007 10:19 PM (GMT)
Heh, PvP...
Yeah, considering how long it took them to start the bloody Rebellion on there....
I stay away from the Monthly Fee [Read: bleed me dry every month] games on the principle of being a cheapskate.

I hate subscriptions! Especially now. I just realized those stupid lamers over at Blizzard have been charging me for my boyfriends inactive and canceled WoW account. I hate them! I'm calling them right now....
