Title: Microsoft FrontPage question.

Manny Cav - July 30, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
I'm using Microsoft FrontPage to design the web pages for my site. Now, I don't want to use the built in button function because it's limited and doesn't offer enough styles. So, I'm making my own buttons. However, I don't like going through the manual image editing process for adding the text to it when I want to add a new page. So, is there a way to overlay text over an image in Microsoft FrontPage?

Insert - Picture - From File

Once you locate the image and place it on the page where you want it, single click on it. This should bring up a small bar labeled "Pictures." Click on the second button. It looks like the letter "A."

I placed an image and single clicked it, but it didn't bring up anything labeled pictures. I could bring it up anyway I clicked it, nor could I find a button like you described.

EDIT: I figured out how to do it. It wasn't the exact way you described it, but what works works. Thanks for your help, anyway! ^_^

Maybe we have different versions. I just tried doing it the way I described it and it worked. What did you have to do?

I right-clicked an image, clicked "Show Pictures Toolbar," then clicked the "A" button. I'm currently running FrontPage 2003.

I'm using Frontpage 2000. I guess that explains the difference.

I need some help regarding this issue.

I figured out how to do the text thing. However, instead of simply overlaying the text over the images in a manner where I don't have to create a zillion images, it starts spewing out dozens of .gif images that make the web pages dependent on files on my computers. This is not what I wanted. This means I have to upload these dozens of images for my web pages to work. I ain't doin' it. Sometimes, it gives me the choice of whether or not I want to save the images (I always say 'no' whenever I can), but usually, it just saves them automatically where I'm forced to upload these images it spews out. I also know when it's going to do it: whenever I open a page, it will sometimes display this message:
QUOTE (Microsoft Office IdiotPage)
The contents of a FrontPage component have been modified. These contents will be overwritten when you save this page.

This is when I know it's going to do it the next time I save.

Is there a way to put a cork into FrontPage where it doesn't display this message and save the images, but only uses the two I have uploaded?

I'm not sure I understand what's going on. Are you saying that when you try to overlap an image with text, it makes duplicate files or multiple images for one? I'm confused.

I'm saying that I want to only use two images for my buttons, and then use text overlaying to make it look like I've made more. However, when I overlay text over a picture, sometimes, it will automatically produce a picture that the image refers to, rather than just overlaying the text, which means it's trying to make me use a lot of images rather than the planned 2. Surely this is possible, where I only use 2 images to make several buttons.

try using notepad.

I don't know HTML all that well. And when I DID try Notepad, I just made it worse.
