Title: I'm thinking about stopping progress on Final Chex

Manny Cav - July 22, 2007 07:10 PM (GMT)
There are some reasons for me to do so. First of all, there is a sudden crash on Legacy when starting it up that isn't present on the other projects. I want these projects to be compatible on all engines and source ports, or at least all of the popular ones. Final Chex fails to meet this standard. Also, it seems to just be another Doom 2 clone/game, whatever (like TNT: Evilution and Plutonia Experiment). It just doesn't seem to be worth it. One last issue I have is that it forced me to use a BEX patch instead of a normal DEH patch, which doesn't seem to be as widely supported (can someone confirm this?). This depends on if there's a way to run a normal DEH patch on the original Doom engines.

What do you guys think? Can someone help me out here, or give me some good advice?

you have alot of projects, dont stop, just slow down progress

Manny Cav - July 22, 2007 09:56 PM (GMT)
I don't actively work on the projects. Only when I have an idea or new material to place in.

you should work on one project at a time. or you'll overload

In all, it's entirely up to you. I would at the very least shelve it for now, since it seems you are unclear as to which direction to take. Put it on hold, do some research when the fancy takes you, then make a decision. Bridges burned are not easily remade, but bridges that are just closed can easily be reopened.

Something about what I said didn't come out right.

I do actively work on the projects. However, The New Chex Quest 2, except for a few graphical touch ups, is just about complete. The New Chex Quest is lacking maps, which I'm no good at making. As far as Final Chex goes, it's like The New Chex Quest 2, except it's got a few bugs in it.

You could try using GZDooM.

For various reasons, I want these projects to be compatible with the original engines. However, if you're just playing the WADs, ZDoom is my recommended port to use. I've got a little hunch on what's causing the crash, though, so I'll need to check it out....

It seems that my solution wasn't the miracle cure I hoped it would be. I thought it might be that the M_DOOM entry was too large. It's given me trouble before, and I didn't have a reason to believe it wasn't doing it again.

You can't shut it down! You haven't made the TNT version yet!

Manny Cav - July 24, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
I deleted the TNT version before I registered here. -_- I could make it again, but I'd have to do some edits.

As for news on Final Chex, I'm encountering a Legacy crash when starting a level. It doesn't happen on ZDoom, however, but I want full source port compatibility here. Read the Final Chex topic for more details.

Old topic, sorry...

But I wanna know...why do you have to make edits for the TNCQ: Flemulution?

Manny Cav - August 11, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
There was one level (I'm pretty sure it was MAP16, but there's a chance I'm wrong on this) that had content that had no place in a Chex Quest level. I'd have to do some fixing up if there's ever to be a chance on actually making it again and releasing it.

Now, as you probably already know, the Legacy bug in Final Chex is dead, so it's off the hook as of now. This is important if someone wishes to make a project based off of Final Chex that uses Doom Legacy.

Care to elaborate?

Or no?

Manny Cav - August 15, 2007 01:16 AM (GMT)
It was basically a scene with bad religious stuff. I think there was an inverted cross, and an alter with dead soldiers on it. Normal for a game like Doom, but it doesn't belong in Chex Quest. I'm actually considering making it again. Right now, I'm too busy with other things to start a new Chex Quest project. However, it's something to look for in the future.

EDIT: With the Legacy bug fixed and Final Chex saved, this topic has lived out it's purpose. If anyone wants to comment on the Evilution rendition idea, visit this topic.
