Title: The New Chex Quest.
Description: All the latest downloads and information

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
The latest download of The New Chex Quest is Beta 6. You may download it at http://cbastudios.profusehost.net/.

GameMaster - July 8, 2007 01:04 AM (GMT)
Is that cq1 and cq2 episodes all in one wad?

Lucius Octavion - July 8, 2007 01:48 AM (GMT)
Isn't that TUCQ?

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
No, no, no. It's more than that. If you read the instructions and descriptions from the download, you'd see that. Anyway, I'm too busy right now to go into details, as I'm still getting things planned and set up, so stay with me here. It's basically a train wreck right now.

True_Dude - July 8, 2007 01:59 AM (GMT)
So, all this does is add Chex 1, 2 and 3 together with extras levels?

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
Yes, but I've blended it in to the feel of the original Chex Quest levels, ie, no "hyper-zorchers," etc.

GameMaster - July 8, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
So basically, your trying to create what chex quest could have been like if Digital Cafe converted all episodes and levels? Not bad.

True_Dude - July 8, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
Thats what I figured. So now Chex 3 doesn't ripoff as much anymore?

GameMaster - July 8, 2007 02:17 AM (GMT)

No, I think its still the stolen version

not to fear, me and replica are constructing an original non-stolen cq3.

Manny Cav, would you consider replacing it once we're finished?

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 02:22 AM (GMT)
@ GameMaster: Correct. I'm also replacing all Doom music and monsters, using old Flemoids put into more logical positions, and some of my own creation even.

@ True_Dude: Not as much. They are they same 5 levels with the same textures. However, the textures are at least partially Chex Quest themed, and most of the Chex Quest 3 scenery has been replaced with more standard scenery. Chex out the second room of E3M1: Military Outpost (I think) for such an example. If you've played the original Chex Quest 3, you'll notice the difference rather quickly.

EDIT: If your's and Replica's project requires Doom Legacy, then no deal. This wad must also work with Ultimate Doom to achieve what I'm after: a full Chex Quest IWAD with all Doom material replaced.

True_Dude - July 8, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
Well, I've just played it. The levels are actually kinda linear, especially E1M6. Also, have you replaced every enemy in the game?

GameMaster - July 8, 2007 02:30 AM (GMT)
I would have to discuss that with him, im not sure what he's planning, for now i believe its just a standard ultimate doom .wad file. I also think he's gonna make a new .exe file, but he has yet to confirm this. just stick with the wad for now.

Dvader0086 - July 8, 2007 02:33 AM (GMT)
I've played them... It's very fun...

GameMaster - July 8, 2007 02:39 AM (GMT)
gosh!!! those download files are impossibly large!!! mr.modem, i am officially p*ss*d at you. d*mn dialup!!

btw i saw the screenshots, it looks awsome.

Note from Manny Cav: Please don't use His name in vain on the forums. ^_^

EDIT from Manny Cav: Also, p*ss is a banned word here. This is a family friendly board, so post accordingly. And please don't bypass the word filters, either, as they are not 100% effective.

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
You must be on dial-up, because 3.5 MB isn't that large.

And, no, I am not making my own .exe. There is just a .bex patch in the WADs for the sole purpose of changing the Doom text. While the WAD works with The Ultimate Doom, I recommend ZDoom as a port to play the WADs so the .bex patch will be used.

Was that back from when manny cav was being used by an admin?

True_Dude - July 8, 2007 03:30 AM (GMT)
"Back then"? How can it be from "back then" if it happened right now?

Manny Cav - July 8, 2007 05:13 PM (GMT)
The uploader I use to host my Chex projects, Psychoholiday, has exceeded it's bandwidth, and the downloads are now unavailable. However, it's my hope that the webmaster there will fix this in a timely fashion. Just bear with me, y'all.

i believe its Replica's project, and some help for other members. mainly you. i'm sorry if that sounds rude. it just bothered me. and no Manny may not use CQ3, it is legacy based. its a edited TUCQp2b3. and it uses the features, he however may use any textures, sprites, flats etc. for it. but no music.

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 02:18 AM (GMT)
Alright. Psychoholiday is up again. So, get to the downloads, boys and girls!

Replica - July 9, 2007 04:20 PM (GMT)
 it comes out as a .rar file? how do i set it up?

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
You go to http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm and download WinRAR 3.70 to extract the contents. It's completely free and without limitation, though they are taking in donations from registrations.

Replica - July 9, 2007 04:51 PM (GMT)
will winzip work?

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 04:57 PM (GMT)
Most likely not. WinRAR is free, so there should be no problems there. Just install it, and you're good to go.

The main reason I use .rar is that it compresses files to smaller sizes than the standard .zip. Which is important, because I'm on the slowest dial-up on the face of the planet (or at lease I think it is).

Replica - July 9, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
it worked!, i started to play new chex quest 2, and your missing a sprite in the supershotgun -_- the second shoting sprite. it ends the game

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 05:11 PM (GMT)
I works with me. What port or engine are you using?

Replica - July 9, 2007 05:23 PM (GMT)
i couldn't get anything to work, so legacy... why?

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
Didn't you read the notices and README? Please use either the original Doom.exe or ZDoom. It doesn't work on Legacy for some reason.

Replica - July 9, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
i couldn't get them to work...

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
Are you saying it doesn't work on ZDoom?

Replica - July 9, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
no, im saying i couldn't find the zdoom.exe file

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 06:00 PM (GMT)
1: You have to download ZDoom here.

2: I figured out what was causing the Legacy error. It was because some of the sound effects had a length of 0. Oddly enough, this isn't a problem on ZDoom, so I never noticed the bug. However, I have corrected it, and the new WADS are pending a test on Doom Legacy.

Replica - July 9, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
thanks. i liked the game though. it looks like a chexquest game though!

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 06:35 PM (GMT)
I tested The New Chex Quest 2 on Doom Legacy. The crash is gone, but there's another bug: it doesn't use the new backgrounds in the WAD. I'll try to see what's wrong, but this is just another reason not to use Doom Legacy.

Lucius Octavion - July 9, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
What graphic are you replacing?

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 09:50 PM (GMT)
Anything that was used in Doom and not Chex Quest.

Lucius Octavion - July 9, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know, but which background doesn't work? I maybe can help you.

Manny Cav - July 9, 2007 10:17 PM (GMT)
It's not that big of a problem. It only happens when using it on Legacy, which is why I prefer ZDoom. Basically, the three new backgrounds used in The New Chex Quest 2 don't show up. Instead, the old Doom 2 ones do. It doesn't happen on The New Chex Quest, and Final Chex crashes with a segment violation upon starting a new game. I might figure it out eventually, but I would use ZDoom or the old engines for now.

Manny Cav - July 11, 2007 04:54 PM (GMT)
I'm working on new releases for The New Chex Quest, The New Chex Quest 2, and Final Chex. In due time, I will write comprehensive articles on the Chex Quest Wiki, upload the new versions, and make separate topics in this subforum. Check back here or at my site for updates.

Manny Cav - July 16, 2007 03:09 PM (GMT)
I've released the new version of The New Chex Quest at my new site. Just click my sig. ^_^ The site URL, for those who are interested is http://mannycav.sitesled.com. I fixed up a lot of things. Hope you like the new slime letters.

Anyway, from now on, if you want to talk about The New Chex Quest 2 or Final Chex, please do so in the appropiate topic.
