Title: Thinking about a forum....

Manny Cav - June 25, 2007 01:33 AM (GMT)
It doesn't look like Freewebs is going to get the forums system complete anytime soon, so I've been looking into free forum hosting. Can anybody out there make any recommendations? I've been thinking about ezboard or InvisionFree, but if you can make a better suggestion, I'm all ears.

Master of Nachos - June 25, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
Free Power Boards. That's where I had my band's forums.

Why do you need a forum? this is about chexQuest... Do we need another?

Manny Cav - June 25, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
A forum for CBA Studios, not just Chex Quest.

Master of Nachos - June 25, 2007 02:28 AM (GMT)
Why do you need it for CBA Studios? That's just the website you made. Plus we don't need a new CQ forum because it will take too long to become discovered.

Replica - June 25, 2007 02:29 AM (GMT)
ok ^_^ try invsionfree, look how Richies turned out ^_^

Ugh. A forum for CBA Studios is what I want. And it's not just another CQ forum. It's a CBA Studios forum. And it will be easy to find if I put it in my Freewebs site's navigational bar.

Replica - June 25, 2007 03:00 AM (GMT)
i'm thinking of starting one for Flemiods Quest. when i start the project ;)

edit = i forgot to put in, You'll be your own admin, and its his wish. and well ya ^_^

Quarkz - June 25, 2007 03:25 AM (GMT)
free power boards, trust me, youll like it

Manny Cav - June 25, 2007 04:11 AM (GMT)
After getting about halfway through cobbling together a site at ezboard, I decided that it wasn't worth all the mess, and I should just wait on Freewebs. What do you guys think?

Replica - June 25, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! ! !! !!!... ! No you shouldn't wait. and don't do ezboard. you want to know how any members you have right? ezboard sucks

Master of Nachos - June 25, 2007 09:52 PM (GMT)
You don't need a board. But if you really want one I say go with invisionfree. But Freepowerboards is easier to use. But invisionfree will be more popular because free power boards have super long addresses.

Loremaster - June 25, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
Ok Manny. Since you'll be the Owner/Main Admin, you'll want an Admin's POV on Invision, right?

Invision's Admin interface is very good. Sometimes a little tough to find things, and a few commands don't have options that affect the entire board, but it gives you a surprising amount of control over the board. If you know PHP then you can code in even more functionality and features.

It seems like Free Power Boards has "Clik" functionality for creating these extra features, though this means they will not be EXACTLY what you want them to be.

I say go for Invision, you can ALWAYS switch should you decide otherwise later.

And MON, stop telling him what he does and doesn't need. He's getting a forum for his Game Studio's website. By your logic, that's like saying IGN doesn't need a forum because Nintendo already has a forum.

Manny Cav - June 25, 2007 11:30 PM (GMT)
I sent Freewebs a support email, asking on when the beta status will be lifted on their forums system. If it's in a reasonable time frame, oh, say, 6 months, or even a year if I felt like a forum isn't a necessity now, I'll use their's. If it's going to be much more longer than that, then I'll get a forum elsewhere.

I've scratched ezboard off the list for now, but I'm torn between Free Power Boards and InvisionFree. I've got Loremaster here saying "InvisionFree," but I've got MoN here saying "Free Power Boards." I'm a noob at this sort of stuff. Really, I first picked Freewebs for my main host just because of hype alone, and the other Chex sites I saw (though now, it seems to be an excellent host, bar the file space). And I really can't tell the difference between the two. I'll wait for a response to my email, and some more feedback here before I do anything.

Replica - June 25, 2007 11:40 PM (GMT)
wait you forgot about me! i said invisionfree

Master of Nachos - June 26, 2007 02:27 AM (GMT)
I was actually tied between the two so you might as well go with invisionfree. I have actually made my own chex quest forums. But I don't know how to change the colors. If anyone wants to be a mod or admin pplease come. I'll probably have a link in my sig.

Manny Cav - June 26, 2007 03:52 AM (GMT)
Yes, Replica, I saw your post. And Quarkz, too.

Master of Nachos - June 26, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
Anyway Invisionfree is the best way to go.

redbipedicus - June 26, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
I say you should use invision. Whatever you do, though, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use proboards.

GameMaster - June 26, 2007 10:03 PM (GMT)
im most familar with ForumUp, i trust em and its easy, but hey go with InvisionFree if ya want.

Just prepare yourself and make plenty of backups. U dont want ur forum crashing like ours did. <_<

Aye, proborads sucks. Invisionfree is the definate answer manny. Free Power Boards is an easy system but nobody will come to it because it is almost impossible to type in the correct web address. Invision is a bit more complicated bup you will get many more members.

There is no need to quote yourself for emphasis if that is your only aim. Please refrain from this.

I do this cause sometimes I want people to see the post, more posts come after it forceing it down a page, causing people to look at the next page only, not the last one.

I'm not making sense, am I?

Master of Nachos - June 29, 2007 12:33 AM (GMT)
You are but it does get annoying.

Manny Cav - June 29, 2007 12:40 AM (GMT)
I've registered with InvisionFree and got a board set up. Read my CBA topic for details.

Master of Nachos - June 29, 2007 12:41 AM (GMT)
Why don't you just post a link in your sig.

Thank You sir for your very supportive comment. I really look forward to more of those <_<

You are welcome. The truce forbids me from speaking freely.

GameMaster - June 29, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
Dont let it get to your head. <_<

Master of Nachos - June 29, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
That goes for you to. <_<

Anyway Manny Cav how is your forums coming? I know you made one.

Manny Cav - June 29, 2007 03:54 AM (GMT)
It's not open to the public yet because I'm still skinning. I wonder where redbipedicus went....

Master of Nachos - June 29, 2007 04:25 AM (GMT)
You're right I haven't seen him lately. No one is posting on my forums either. I just realized, that lot's of members are making forums.

xbolt - June 29, 2007 05:20 AM (GMT)
GameMaster! Nacho! Both of you! COOL IT! <_<
