Title: Puzzles...
Description: Any ideas?
The_Green_Avenger - May 12, 2007 02:46 PM (GMT)
My next level that I started yesterday is going to be based on puzzles. I finished scripting the first one yesterday, but I'm looking for others. Anything you think might be fun and possible with FS?

Been done before... I want new things!

You can use a water level type thing similar to that in half life.
I can probably think of more later.
You should play some wads that use extensive scripting to get ideas like
hth2.wad
icerial2.wad

I have already completed a water-level puzzle. It was the first one I did.

| A very big maze? |
With secret passage ways and pits that will eventually kill you?

that may be a littel to much

Something original! Something fun! Stuff that you don't usually see.
Master of Nachos - May 14, 2007 02:14 AM (GMT)
A training arena like Strife's with booby traps and long pits like that one in my level "Flem Cave"
Replica - May 14, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
how about you fly up a elevator and suddenly 50 flemoids come out in a army
Master of Nachos - May 14, 2007 11:10 AM (GMT)
Nope. That happens quite often actually. Well the army does. Not the elevator.
The_Green_Avenger - May 14, 2007 02:13 PM (GMT)
A training area is a possibility, minus the pits and stuff, but I have yet to figure out the twist I'd give it.
The puzzle I'm currently working on will most likely at least double the amount of FS in the level. You have to turn on the electricity in a sector of the building that contains the blue key (without it, there's no light and the doors won't work.). The trick is that you have to have one sector's electricity off at all times, as the plant can't handle all of them at the same time, and you will have to figure out which sector's electricity you will turn off. You pick wrong, you'll have to go back and turn it back on again. I'm also looking into the possibility of adding security cameras in the level via FS so you can see where you turned the electricity off. Let's see if I can get it done!
Oh, the storyline is as follows for Episode 4:
You are a trainee in the Chex Squadron training facility, and you are undergoing a series of tests (puzzles) to test your reactions in dangerous situations. To make it more challenging, the Squadron is using flemoids that were captured earlier to enhance their training facility. Your instructor tells you, "Don't worry. If they stick you to the floor, I'll send someone in there with a spoon to get you out." But what happens when the flemmies break containment during your first training mission, flooding into the training area unchecked? Will you make it? Will the Chex Squadron send help? Or are you destined to be stuck to the floor for all eternity?... I seriosly need to work on that last line. Whatever.
There ya go.

thats a strange, is their like 9 tests? or is that just for the first map?
The_Green_Avenger - May 14, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
There are several puzzles in each map. I have yet to determine exactly how many each.
xbolt - May 14, 2007 07:45 PM (GMT)
Waahhh! You stole my idea for puzzle-based gameplay! Waahhh!
(Kidding :P )
But anyway, now we're both in the same position, trying to come up with new and exciting puzzles. I started my own puzzling thread in the Newmaps forum, but nobody has replied yet... :(

Basically, I'm making it up as I go. I've invented two pretty good ideas, at least in my estimation. Currently, I've hit 500 lines of scripting, and I'm about done with what should be the last puzzle.
Replica - May 14, 2007 09:39 PM (GMT)

The_Green_Avenger - May 15, 2007 07:03 PM (GMT)
You won't find out about the last level for a while now.
Replica - May 21, 2007 02:16 AM (GMT)
Thats what i thought. If i was you i wounld only put out the first episode, so their is a point of getting the reall one, if that makes sence to you.
Master of Nachos - May 21, 2007 11:12 AM (GMT)

Replica - May 21, 2007 05:48 PM (GMT)
