Title: Elevator in Fraggle Script
Description: An Elevator that works like a real one!

Hi! First, I hope this is the right place to post this. I chose TUCQ forum because you need TUCQ for this...
I created an elevator that works like a real elevator, based on FraggleScript. You push the call switch and it comes to your level and the door opens. Then it waits for you to get on (it will not leave without you, so you cannot miss the lift...). When you have entered, the door closes and it lowers to the lower level and the door at the bottom opens! It should be able work with four floors if needed (major script editing needed for that, two scripts per floor.)
I made a sample of two types - a "Chex Brand" one and a "Brand X" one. :) Needless to say, the brand X one breaks when you use it.
If you want to check it out, here it is:
Download Sample WAD. It replaces level E1M6, so use the "Map e1m6" command in legacy to start it after loading the wad in. REQUIRES TUCQ!
The first elevator where you start is the "Chex Brand" one that works, push the switch (my 3d on that didn't go too well...) and wait a second or two. You'll here some noise (door at the bottom closes, lift rises) and then the door will open. Then hop on. At the bottom, just follow the level, you'll come to another one shortly.
There are two doors when you get to the next one, One on the left and one on the right with a switch. The right side is the "Brand X" model. When the switch is used, the lift lowers only half way, the door jams half way open and then closes. Then, the emergency steps on the left open and a message is displayed indicating the lift malfunctioned and you need to use the steps...
Please note this example is part of a bigger level I am making, so you'll see a blue key and some other things, like a flemoid and a slimesuit. Just ignore them, you don't need them to use the elevators...
Let me know how you like it!
Sorry for lengthly explaination. I'm also sorry if this has been done before in FraggleScript...

Very good. I think I've seen something akin to this elsewhere, but I forget where. Nice work, anyway.
Your 3d floors seem to be missing certain sides. Make sure that the dummy sector segment that creates the floor has a texture, and that the floor and ceiling of the dummy sector have textures.

Thanks for the 3D tip. I'll see into it.
About seeing this elsewhere, I remember seeing a similar idea in another DOOM based game as well (whcih ran as a PWAD to Doom). If I Recall Correctly, the only difference was it ran in DOSDOOM, didn't use FS, and you had to open the doors manually at the top and bottom, which almost defeats the purpose of this...
Meanwhile, I hope to hear more comments about this! :)

I like the elevators. Basically it has a door instead of just being a simple "lift".

I'll add the doors are automatic for other readers. :)

Yes, that is very nice, but thier are still people making sumitions for e1m6{me for one} but i agree ^_^ it is realy nice.

Heh. I like your avatar Replica. This is a good idea. Have you thought about flemoids being able to operate the elevator.

may i make a suggestion?
the emergency stairs to the right was a little too obvious. I missed the elevator the first time.
Here's my idea: when the message flashes, a secret door should open automatically with the stairs, right next to the elevator. it would be more dramatic and least expected. one last thing if you dont mind i think the message shouldnt be flashing, at least not that fast. it was hard to read the first time.
but great idea

Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestions. I did think of the obvious stairs and thought many would try to open the door on the left first...My next update will have a less obvious stairwell.
I did think of flemoids operating it, but cannot figure out how to make a flemoid operate a switch....
The message will be slowed down or made steady for a time period.

Hi again,
I made the suggested Mods to the elevator and packaged the other mods made in the last few weeks.
Here is what's new:
* 3D Fixed on switch boxes
* A display has been added to the HUD to indicate the floor the elevator is on. (Four Way only)
* Four way elevator created and included. (As file "FS_4way.wad")
* Stairwell for Brand X elevator made less obvious
* "Elevator Broken" message for Brand X elevator - Flash speed corrected as suggested.
Here is the link again:
Sample Wad Files (both replace level E1M6)
The file names in the ZIP explain everything. I included a new file called "FS_4way.wad" which is the new fourway elevator. "FS_elev.wad" is an updated copy of the original file, with the items mentioned above completed.
Always looking for more great suggestions,
chexdude
(EDIT: Corrected broken Sample WAD link...)
(EDIT 2: Fixed link yet again...)

WOW  that is realy cool. on sf_4way.wad you need to lower unpegged the walls of the doors, and mabe raise the roof a tad. but that is still realy good! :o
