Title: Personal Javascript Tutoring
Paper - March 17, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
Some of the staff are now teaching javascript.
I am looking for up to five people to teach in one go. If you would like to learn javascript, in a small group with a coder to help you then please respond here :)
In the group, I will teach you how to do basic HTML, and then quickly move onto the basics of javascript, and the basic concepts. The group will begin by creating alert boxes that popup. After, we will begin to explore arrays, loops, and interacting with the document.
I am teaching everything on
Level 1.
After learning the basics, I can either move to a higher level or show the group how to code for IF.

Responding here.
Though you can skip the HTML and go straight to JS with me.
I've always been interested in learning but have had no one to help.
Zelnen - March 17, 2006 10:38 PM (GMT)
Well i'd like to learn more. I no HTML really well and JS pretty decent. Verminox taught me alot. But i might be level 2 or 3 so i'll have to wait.
retsam - March 17, 2006 10:40 PM (GMT)
Anarchy, please note with all those who are applying for Personal Tutors; you still need to read the tutorials we have provided in the open.
**I'll let and see if Paper wishes to be your Senpai.

What about me  *feels left out*
Anarchy - March 17, 2006 10:44 PM (GMT)
I have started but it's pretty vaguely explained. Either that or I'm too tired to understand things today due to a rare case of insomnia I experienced last night.
I'll re-read when I'm well rested.
retsam - March 17, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
Anarchy, the best way to learn this stuff (coding and scripting in general) is visual practice. If you think that just reading and not practicing will get you far, then you got a hard way to learn. I learned and the way I have taught, is you need to keep your notepad open! Put the examples in, save it, test it, and then modify it tell you understand it.
**Errmm... Zelen, what parts are you having trouble learning?

Zelnen - March 17, 2006 10:50 PM (GMT)
Well i made this and i don't no why it's not working?
http://invisionfree.com/forums/UCO/index.php?showtopic=393I guess i don't need tutoring just help now and then
Anarchy - March 17, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
Retsam, I have been actually.
But as I said, the main thing may be sleep deprivation.
That'll not be a problem by tomorrow.
I was just reserving some tutoring for later.
I didn't expect a reply so fast.
retsam - March 17, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
well you could have tutoring, but if it's just help you could just post it on the regular or the next level up scripter's Help Category.
[:r:]
Paper - March 17, 2006 11:46 PM (GMT)
I am happy to teach anyone :) Retsam, how do you want to organise this?
I can teach Anarchy, whilst you teach Zelnen if you want.
Zelen, I can't see anything immediately wrong with it. Can you show me an example of it working?
retsam - March 18, 2006 12:03 AM (GMT)
Anarchy, tis alright. :D
Yeah, Paper just add area for Anarchy... In a way, I think Verminox is Zelnen's teacher... But I don't know.

Paper - March 18, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
I sent a PM to him confirming details :)
If I teach more than one person, can I keep them in the same group? I think groups of newbies can end up helping each other.
BTW, since you seem to be managing the personal tutoring, should we like add something extra to your profile to show that you are?

Personal tutoring is a one on one bases, but we could have a forum (with sub-forums) for groups... (like we discussed in the Staff area) for all your students to learn off each other....

Like how? I guess...

Paper - March 18, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
I don't know. I'll have a think.
I also like that idea. Perhaps we should just have one forum at the top of the forum for the personal tutoring.

LMAO Retsam who are you taking and who's Paper taking?
Matrixboy - March 18, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
I would like to request a Personal Javascript tutor.
I know VERY basic understandings of Javascript, I have done triggering (if that will help in ANY way possible...), and I also know HTML/XHTML completly(sp?) without a doubt in my mind.
Most of all, my favorite attribute of myself; I use complete gramar, and (most of the time), spell correctly. This is a hard-to-find attribute on the internet, I guess that's why I love it so much.
retsam - March 18, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
I'll get your area in a sec, I'll be your senpai again :P

I took Anarchy. Retsam, who is going to take Zelnen? I am a bit busy at the moment, so I'd rather take one on for now. I have exams coming up soon.
retsam - March 19, 2006 12:41 AM (GMT)
yeah.. But I wished my members would POST more... I mean that way I can help them out.

I understand some on CSS HTML and JS
retsam - March 23, 2006 12:28 AM (GMT)
Adam... I'll take you then :D, but you do know HTML right?
[:r:]
Death - March 23, 2006 05:33 AM (GMT)
sorry for the late response...I'll take whoever is assigned...I really dont care. I wou;ld prefer that they knew HTMl and CSS thouroughly though, because most of the JS I teach will rely heavily on CSS implementation of pretty much everything, since that is my style.
warning: There was someone on Duv's forum that requested help. I told them if they wanted to ask for me specifically here for the petrsonal tutor. I cant remember usernames or anything, but I did refer them here. Just warning there will most likely be another one.
