FOR MTS, SHAW, and the UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA webspace!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you have shaw, the FTP site is ftp.shaw.ca, so if you have an FTP client (like
WS_FTP) you just use that site and log into it through your username and password. Once you click connect you should see your shaw webspace folder. If its your first time using it, it will likely be empty. When you want to see the stuff you've uploaded, the website is
http://members.shaw.ca/<username>/<file.ext>For example if my username is jeremy and i want to upload lude.jpg, i login to the FTP server (ftp.shaw.ca) with my password, and then put the lude.jpg from my computer into my shaw folder (its usually pretty straight forward how to do this). Then when i host my image it will be at
http://members.shaw.ca/jeremy/lude.jpg . I dont have shaw right now so all these URLs are non-existant. For more info on setting up your shaw account check
here.If you dont want to download a FTP client like WS_FTP, you can also do it through Internet Explorer and Netscape. To do this you must type in the address bar ftp://<username>@ftp.shaw.ca, so as in the previous example it would be
ftp://jeremy@ftp.shaw.ca, press enter and you will be prompted to enter your password. Once correctly entered your browser is now a file folder, and you can drag/copy files into your shaw space.
Similarly with MTS High Speed, the FTP site is ftp.mts.net, and you can access it through
http://www.mts.net/~<username>/<file.ext>.
With the U of M, you must activate your website by
clicking here and then login to the FTP server at ccu.umanitoba.ca, then upload to your public_html folder and the the site will be
http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~<username&...lt;file.ext>. If you dont have a public_html, follow
this. If you dont know how to login to your unix account, type Start->Run->"telnet ccu.umanitoba.ca" and enter your username and password. You can alternatively click telnet://ccu.umanitoba.ca
Hope this helps
Jeremy
