Title: Leon Comedies
Description: Any others??

I may be wrong here, but I don't think that Leon has acted in many comedy movies - has he? One of which really come to mind with a fantastic plot is 'Everyday's Valentine' with Cecilia - the cast was great, and the movie overall was quite amusing as well - not to mention the lovely soundtrack.

I don't know whether you'd classify 'Killing me tenderly' with Sammi a comedy as it was a little light - the same applies with 'God of Gamblers, the previous life (some would say the younger years)'....Its just a shame (imo only! - not that there's anything wrong with that) that Leon's roles are mostly the serious / knight in shiny armour type...I would love to see Leon in more comedies.

FYI - I love comedies...

On another note, although this does not relate to Leon whatsoever, do u guys agree with me that Shaolin Soccer's a lot more enjoyable to watch???

Compared to what?

I'm not really into Stephen Chow movies... I'm more into Pang Ho Cheung style. Like You Shoot, I Shoot, and Men Suddenly in Black. I can repeat those again and again and still laugh. But I only laughed twice in Shaolin Soccer.

Leon did a couple of comedies in early 90's - Fruit Punch & The Magic Touch. I have enjoyed both these films and the ones mentioned so obviously it would be great news if he did more comedies. But loooking at recent years, there seems to be a lack of comedies so maybe Leon would like to do them but there just aren't many available?

Stephen Chow films are often pure comedy slapstick and laugh out loud type, Leon is more romantic comedy.

Sorry, I meant in comparison to Kung Fu. I was comparing one Chow movie with another....

Hey, I guess you're right. But just for your info, there have been plenty of romantic comedies in recent yrs - Andy / Sammi, Louis / Sammi....etc....with the first pair producing some fantastic comedies....

I like cheap laughs, that's the reason I'm attracted to Mr Chow's comedies...hehe..
But you're right....Leon's genre's more the romantic comedy type...

I would assume that the reason for Leon acting in other roles is purely for reaching out to the diversifying audience. Romantic comedies attract young at heart girls.....and not the mainstream public....

Exactly, the stand-out rom coms often involve Sammi and they're nearly always directed by Johnnie To who likes to use Andy/Louis/Lau Ching Wan as the leading man.

I haven't seen Kung Fu Hustle in full yet, kinda caught glimpses when other people were watching but I can say that Shaolin Soccer's story was definitely more easier to get into, KFH had some weird characters/actions  I can still manage to laugh at the singing part in the pub after so many times :D

I do watched Shaolin Soccer. The first time I watch it with my housemates.... we're all laugh non-stoply!! But when we rewatch it again, the feel was a bit different... no more hard-laugh like first time!

Well, i also wish to see Leon in hard-comedy movies.... not only in all type romantic-comedy! Just let's do the first trial... becoz i believe peoples can't imagine Leon in hard-comedy movie... so, it's must be so interesting trial, wat!!

KFH had less Chow, and introduced a swag of 'co-actors'. The conclusion was a little duddy though...Without wanting to spoil too much - or delve too much into something other than Leon - it would've been alot more enjoyable if the three Kung Fu buddies played a larger role.....but anyway....

haha....Yeah, the pub scene was very amusing - especially the beating that Chow and the other monk got subsequent to singing 'California Dreaming'...hehe - mistaken identiy - so much for 'Iron head' or 'Iron Foot'....

I find that Chow's films evolve around vulgar and unfortunate incidents that happen to people...which, I guess makes it funny.

:argue:

With regards to Andy / Sammi - you are correct. Certain directors do favour certain actors for certain roles....But I do believe its Leon's impression / physique that dictates the roles that leon gets offered.....Tall / gentleman type people are rather rigid????

:argue:

Yeah, like most things, the novelty wears off after the first time.

Would be a cool idea. Any comedy...

Well all we can do now is wait and hope...but it could be at least another year before Leon appears in something comedic. His next film is Seven Swords (very serious) then rumoured project afterwards is either an action type film with Anthony Wong or a film directed by a Taiwanese director with Karena Lam (expect it to be serious) and then there's the Stanley Kwan film (he only does serious films), if it ever manages to start filming :P
