Title: What do you think...
quadshock - June 16, 2004 03:30 AM (GMT)
what do you think Leon's cumulative album sales numbers would be? Recently I read that Nic Tse has reached the 5 million mark as a total number of cd's sold since the beginning of his career.
I remember Britney spears was at the 40 million mark...
what do you think Leon's is?
GaV - June 16, 2004 06:40 AM (GMT)
leon's number of sales should be quite high, afterall he was pretty popular early 90's around the grand music days where sales soared~
leonfantasy - June 16, 2004 05:40 PM (GMT)
The big problem with LL cds, is that they made some pirates of it, then people didn't buy the original ones. Or that people keep shares the music on the web, so the fan didn't even bother to buy the new album, but listen for free. Not that we shouldn't share the music file, but if we can share the classic one, (the albums before Hey, If i can see you again), not the new cd like sound track of LMLU, or Leon next album. I visit a forum, and they've been post Leon's old songs, i'm not arguing with that, but they do still ask the Homework cd, i think they should buy it, and not ask to post it up if they're Leon's fans.
(Am I off the topic??)
And sure, LEON's cumulative album sales numbers would be very high. not low.
quadshock - June 16, 2004 07:39 PM (GMT)
well even with all the piracy, i imagine leon's cd sales would be multiples of Nic's sales...
he's been around longer, has had more recognition, etc. I think...at least 10 million?
Mrs Lai - June 17, 2004 04:24 AM (GMT)
I think he's older CDs (before piracy) got abt 7 platinums... platinum is 50,000 I think...
quadshock - June 17, 2004 04:36 AM (GMT)
total?
yeah i think 50k is platinum too...
Mrs Lai - June 17, 2004 06:24 AM (GMT)
Yeh, so we'll say his average is 6 platinums... for abt 40 albums... he's well over 10 million.
quadshock - June 17, 2004 07:14 AM (GMT)
6 platinums for each cd?!
o.o
and didn't HOMEWORK sell 50k?
6 platinums is 300k....
ok that's not as much as i thought so nvm
Mrs Lai - June 17, 2004 07:32 AM (GMT)
Didn't Hey and Homework each get platinum on the 1st day (pre-orders)?!
quadshock - June 17, 2004 06:34 PM (GMT)
they did? o.o
argh i wish there was a site dedicated to chinese album sales...
Mrs Lai - June 18, 2004 12:33 AM (GMT)
Yeh, remember the host congratulated Leon on the day he promoted the album... 50000 from pre-orders ja... and I don't expect many fans to pre-order either...
Well, I wouldn't mind a site like that... provided they can find a way of reporting non-manipulated figures. And also if every singer's figures are reported... so those with low sales can't just not report the firgures and say they sold heaps...
quadshock - June 18, 2004 02:30 AM (GMT)
like...A HK GOVERNMENT SALES SITE
harharhar
as long as it's not mainland it won't be corrupted and stuff lol
quadshock - June 18, 2004 03:09 AM (GMT)
oh btw...do you know the total sales numbers for Hey and Homework?
Mrs Lai - June 18, 2004 04:49 AM (GMT)
Mainland and HK is very close tho... hehe. And anyway, HK govt should focus on working HK back to economic stability. :P
Ehhh... not quite sure... But I think Hey sold more than Homework.
quadshock - June 18, 2004 05:10 AM (GMT)
well Hey was still very "modern"....Homework kinda went its own way
i heard that HW still got into HK top 5 though...
so i imagine in the 100k-500k?
Mrs Lai - June 18, 2004 10:32 AM (GMT)
Oh, they both did well... I just think Hey would have done better. Some of my male friends didn't buy Homework, I don't think they liked the easy-listening style.
quadshock - June 18, 2004 10:09 PM (GMT)
guys tend to like up-to-date, "cool" fast songs more than the slow love osngs. If you listen to the ballads all the time chances are you'll be made fun of x.x

what host was that? i'm sure i read about the getting platinum stuff on yesasia and their news can be a bit iffy sometimes.
it's pretty strange that they got 50000 on just pre-orders now they celebrate for selling 10000?
did perhaps sell 500000 in hk alone? think the figure was crazily big!

That was the host for his promo. That girl... I dunno who it is. But I'm sure he did, it was in the papers and all as well. If u keep the news vids go back and watch them, I think the vids would have mentioned it too. I don't even read yesasia news so it wouldn't have been from there.
Who celebrates 10000??? That's pretty embarrassing unless it's a newcomer.
Oh perhaps sold so many copies they said it saved Polygram and the HK music industry that year. Heheh... fully understand why... such a good album. And the cover alone would have sold 200000... haha.
quadshock - June 20, 2004 01:39 AM (GMT)
10,000 is good for....Cookies....haha. anyone who's been promoted for 5 years and still sells that little should be ashamed. or the company should be ashamed for not promoting them enough...
Maggie Fu for example...her stuff is VERY good but i doubt they well that well...
Mrs Lai - June 20, 2004 03:19 AM (GMT)
Nah, actually it's quite bad for Cookies... cos they got 4 members, each member only selling 2500??? And before they 'cut down' it meant each of them sold just over 1000... haha.
Maggie Fu is an okay singer... but her songs are annoying... there's this song where she keeps 'turning'... wth... And it takes more than just talent to be big in HK, u gotta have some sorta good looks, movies and ads and stuff.
But what if a company spends heaps and heaps on promotion but the album still doesn't sell... hehe... the company should be ashamed for signing the wrong person... haha (I'm such a bitch... :P )
quadshock - June 20, 2004 05:59 AM (GMT)
Maggie fu's all on talent...composed most songs on her albums. o.o is that the only song by her you've heard? how can you say "songs" then X| lol
cookies' average sales are below 10k...so if they get that number it IS good for them lol
in hong kong...anyone promoted like crazy and acts cute will make it big now days

Nah, I've heard somemore in my friend's car, but that's the only one I can kinda describe... haha, cos I dunno the titles.
Singers like Maggie will have pretty high download rates... (blame the net)
See, the copy I heard in my friend's car was downloaded... hehe.

Hey, if sales are still 10k after they cut-down I think the 4 remaining members deserve a pat on the back... but they're the better looking ones right?
quadshock - June 20, 2004 08:26 PM (GMT)
kary can sing pretty well actually...
Mrs Lai - June 21, 2004 01:49 AM (GMT)
Yeh, actually gotta admit one of them is pretty good. I think it's Kary... my friend just said it's the not-so-good-looking one... She got a pretty strong voice right?
quadshock - June 21, 2004 05:13 AM (GMT)
yeah...she got chosen to join Ping Pung and introduce the first mainstream modern Cantonese rock band to hong kong radio...haha

quadshock - June 22, 2004 01:28 AM (GMT)
there are plenty of rock bands in Hong Kong...but very few of them try to appeal to the pop audience
