The film "A Day on the Planet" starring Japanese actress Rena Tanaka was invited to be shown at the 28th Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF). Yesterday, she and the director Yukisada Isao came to Hong Kong to attend activities of the film festival. The honorary ambassador of HKIFF, Leon Lai, attended the press conference with her yesterday, and after the screening ceremony, he would be treating her to Chinese delicacies.

At the press conference, Leon represented the organiser of the HKIFF to present a souvenir to Rena Tanaka, and she returned with a film poster. She praised Leon was a very nice person and he spoke gently.

Asked about his feelings for being praised to be gentle, Leon said, "Since you have asked her, of course she would give a friendly reply. Praising is a form of expression. Actually, I didn't have much time and I don't know Japanese, so I didn't chat with her much and didn't have a deep impression. I only know that she is a very professional artiste. She brought all her hair stylist, image director here, and later during the screening of the film, she would be changing to another set of clothes. All Japanese actors/actresses are very professional." Leon said that he hoped to cooperate more with foreign directors. Although language was a barrier, he believed that he could overcome it.

I juz wonder how their dinner going on recently... that Japanese actress needs a translator while communicate with Leon! I dun think this Japanese actress can work with Leon coz she can't speak in English! Perhaps Leon's English not excellence, but if she can speak at least broken english, it's no problem if Leon want to work with her.

Well.... language barrier!! Leon to work with her will be.... misssion impossible!!!

leonfantasy - April 13, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
i don't think that language is a big problem.

i don't think that language is a big problem.

For some peoples, it's doesn't matter. Just like me, eventough I never knew any chinese dialect, but I still can support Leon for more than 10 years!

However I think Leon really thought language barrier is something big problem! Last time whenever reporter asked him that he already got a lot of supporters from Korea & Japan, but why dun he hold any live concert there? then Leon said this: "How to communicate with them?!"

If i'm a korean or Japan fan, my respond to Leon would be:
-His music communicates his fans to him, why not use it to contact his fans, the music speaks all.

We're are all Leon fans, we're all the same.

I think that jap girl is professional, but a bit OTT with all her stylists and assistants etc...she reminds me of J Lo, not her image but her professionalism.

GaV - April 15, 2004 09:28 AM (GMT)
in a way the professionalism is a good thing, but i guess it could be too much.

i think it would be good if Leon held a concert for his kor/jap fans~ he does have lots of support in those places, esp in korea
