Title: How many korean cover songs has LL done?
quadshock - April 4, 2004 11:44 PM (GMT)
i always thought he didn't remake korean songs...something I was kinda proud of. but now people tell me he does it a lot. does anyone know which songs were originally korean songs?
one example they gave me was "love is more important than me" was a remake...
cheesegirl - April 5, 2004 04:25 AM (GMT)
girl friend's boy friend(女友的男友) is one
Ah_M - April 5, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
and 'poisonous love' on the red shoes album. so, 3 in total and I think he has about that many original ones.
most of his korean songs are his remakes of his own to be honest.

2 more...!!
First song I found from album "DNA Goes Wrong" (1997) with the song title "Comfortable Journey". Check at track 2. The composer is Yoon Sang Lee... that is Korean name, right?!
The 2nd. song I found from album "Apasionese en el Verano" (1993), but I dunno to translate the title to english coz i didn't too expert in chinese! But u can check it at track 8. The composer is Yoo Jeong Yeon which I think is a Korean too!

well korean composer doesn't necessarily mean it's a korean remake. for example, one of the HOMEWORK songs are by a korean, but it's original.
what i mean is, he basically copied it. so 5 songs?
leonfantasy - April 6, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
how do you know it's an korean song when listening?
quadshock - April 6, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
well the song has come out in korea before. for example, when you listen to Energy's songs, you may remember the melody/beat and you'll know it's copied.

yeh its like chinese singers doing a remake of an english version, like a chinese version.. havent heard much korean music so not sure about that regarding Leon's cover songs

Yes, but around year 1993-1997 Leon didn't have a strong link with any Korean composer to compose new Korean song for him.
But I feel that all Leon's cover songs were very nice & better than the original version! For example english classic song "Can't Takes My Eyes Off U" and Gary Barlow's "Don't Know What To Say"... woo... Leon's performance very excellence & sweet! :P I bet u Leon sang better than Gary!! Bravo Leon!! B)

When i first listen to Can't take my eyes off you, i could never guess that song was composed and original from english. Also the song Fly me to the moon.
Say what if you never heard the Korean song, and then you listen to one of LL new song. So how do you really know that song is originally from korean?
quadshock - April 7, 2004 01:52 AM (GMT)
you don't know. lol that's why i'm asking =)

I guess it's original since after 1998 Leon got a close connection with Korean composers! However, I just guess! Perhaps I'm wrong!
Errr..., dun u realise Leon love to remake the classic songs... as what u said Fly Me To The Moon & Can't Takes My Eyes Off U.... another one is California Dreaming (wooo... I love this one alot!!).
quadshock - April 8, 2004 06:21 AM (GMT)
i like the songs he writes more than the remakes though ^ ^
Ah_M - April 9, 2004 10:12 PM (GMT)
wow they already used korean songs back in 1993?? don't think i even knew korea existed at that age! had never noticed that, thought it was always japanese, mclaren has a pretty sharp eye!
usually if the song is redone, they usually have "OT" (original track) with the list of credits.
quadshock - April 9, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
ooo lol i guess ppl aren't willing to look through every single booklet to find out huh > < haha
leonfantasy - April 9, 2004 11:00 PM (GMT)
does it really matter?, i mean when you listen to the songs, you listen to the voices of the singer first, right?
GaV - April 10, 2004 01:19 AM (GMT)
dont think most chinese music listeners would even notice its a cover
quadshock - April 10, 2004 07:09 AM (GMT)
i am a bit disappointed, i admit. i thought most his stuff was original, with a few remakes of OLD songs > <
Ah_M - April 10, 2004 09:37 AM (GMT)
Well it is only 5 Korean songs we managed to pick out so most of his stuff is original :)

Thanx! It's my pleasure to share with u all here!
Btw, I no wonder Leon used a lot of remake (cover) songs on Japanese. I saw it since his 2nd. album "Chan Kan Nei" / "Just Wanna Be Close To U" (1991). That song "If This Is Love" very kewl & I do love that song until nowadays... and for sure I can singing it in both cantonese & mandarin!! :P
By the way, just to share with u more... except Korean, Japanese, & English, Leon also used to do the cover on other foreign songs from Europe (perhaps Sweden, etc.), also from Thailand, and Malaysia. I think Leon covered many European songs since his first album.
For Thailand, I found out about 2 songs, both from album "Fei Wo Mo Shu" / "None But Me" (1999). Both I saw Thailand's composers name. U may check at track 10 & 14.
For Malaysia, I realised Leon covered 2 Malay songs that from his first album "Leon" (1990) for this song ~ "Mo Meng Fan Tik Long Man". Check track 3.
And another one from his last album with Polygram "Xiang Wang" / "Longing" (1998). His cover song also "Xiang Wang", check track 1.
Both these 2 songs I've listened to the original Malay version that sang by Malay singers. Just to tell u, the original song of "Mo Meng Fan Tik Long Man" the singer is a female singer!
Ah_M - April 14, 2004 11:03 AM (GMT)
OK we better stop there before quadshock turns against Leon! :P
But it is very normal for HK singers to take other people's songs, I remember looking through a lot of lyric books once and there were LOTS of Japanese composers.
leonsound - April 14, 2004 04:58 PM (GMT)
another song is today weather is fine or something like that.
leon is nothing compared to vietnamese singers. Alot of songs from vietnamese songs are originally from chinese. the worst thing is that the music and everything is exactly the same the only difference of course is the language.
we have this considered good looking guy, he is like leon, tall, built, and just very attractive to the ladies. his name is " Tommy Ngo". i think he is good looking but leon look wayy better than him when he is younger. I just hated vietnamese music cuz they copied too much. they have at least a few hundreds or thoudsands songs from the chinese and they also copy englsih and other countries. it is just sad. this tommy ngo guy copied alot of songs from leon, at least 9 or 10 songs from leon. his music style, the way he dance, sing is just so similar to leon. i hated him so much. he is like the vietnamese's version of leon. we have a vietnamese's version of the 4 heavenly kings. It is just so stupid and sad that we don't come up with our own original stuff.
quadshock - April 15, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
hmmm well the important thing is he doesn't do any more covers. hey didn't have any right? > <
GaV - April 15, 2004 09:35 AM (GMT)
personally i dont think it's much of a big deal, hmm
