her dad came back today and they were all pirated!!!

oh that sucks
did u have to pay him back for them?
still gonna get the original yeh?
quadshock - March 30, 2004 08:11 AM (GMT)
i hope i can but my parents would probably be like "well since you got it already...just buy the next cd"
sigh
trash80 - March 30, 2004 09:21 AM (GMT)
parents should show a better example, my dad keeps asking me to burn copies of CDs i buy that he wants too
Ah_M - March 30, 2004 09:33 AM (GMT)
ooh ALL of them were pirated? maybe he didn't realise...that's why I usually don't ask people to buy stuff for me, always get it wrong
GaV - March 31, 2004 08:20 AM (GMT)
hmmm but cant u tell easily that its a pirated version? like the cover, disc are usually poor quality rite?
trash80 - March 31, 2004 08:53 AM (GMT)
i've only got one pirate CD (linda wong one - first album, original has been deleted so don't shoot me  ) and at first glance you can't really tell, especially if you dun usually buy CDs, you wouldn't know.
quadshock - April 1, 2004 04:42 AM (GMT)
but the cd cases were this thick (literally): |-| (if the cd was standing upright, that's how thick the case was)
the pictures were stretched, and the packaging was kept together with hello kitty stickers > <

lol ok, i honestly can't see how he could've mistaken them then!
and he obviously didn't buy it from a shop then?
leonfantasy - April 3, 2004 03:02 AM (GMT)
talk about pirate CDs, a really long time ago i read about the newspaper and I'm for sure not sure....LL said that People who makes pirate CDs should went to jail, let them in for 20 or 30 years, then the pirate things will stop....
quadshock - April 3, 2004 06:48 AM (GMT)
i dont' know > < i was so disappointed when they pulled out the cd's and i saw the cases were cheap cases.
people who pirate SHOULD be punished. then maybe more than 5% of cd sales will be "real" in china
GaV - April 3, 2004 10:48 AM (GMT)
theres just too much piracy for it to stop..
unless theres a big change to how cd's are produced, dnt think the prob will eva stop

Is the pirated so 'alike' the original ones? I've asked a friend to buy for me but how to differentiate? Mine with a hard cover like 'City of Glass' OST. Inside, there is just a piece of lyrics with pics of Leon & Faye. The CD itself is black in colour with Leon n Faye kissing scene from LMLY? So is original I guess? ;)

they're not at like at all. first obvious difference is the sound quality. any mp3, pirated cd, etc. always sounds worse than the original cd. second, the pictures, booklets, etc. are always either missing, or look awful. third, the pirates probably can't afford 2 cd's, so the VCD is usually missing or added onto the audio cd...so a few tracks aren't playable. so annoying.
Ah_M - April 5, 2004 03:12 PM (GMT)
And real CDs often have the thick CD case whereas pirates use plastic sleeves or the thin cases.

I think government in HK / China should do something to against the piracy. Like in my country Malaysia, past 2 years ago the situation same like in HK / China.... pirate copies everywhere! Bust since last year our government starts to destroyed all this pirate & arrested the peoples who running the piracy activities.
... and today we here hard to see the pirated copy selling anywhere. Plus our government also want all the original CD / VCD decrease the price. Perhaps 2 month from now we here can get the foreign CD like Leon's for around RM$29 (HKD$58) per copy. Today the price still high (about RM$44 / HKD$88 per copy). Hope the price really decrease after May.

LOL!!! sorry quadshock!! We have the same situation in Vietnamese's music stores in the U.S. They sell so many pirated cds and you can tell it easily. If you look in the back, normally they don't have the copyright date and the manufacture company(ies) On the front, they have this picture looks like it is printed or scanned out from the computer, it is funny! I only got one pirated cd of leon but the rest are originals.
Did you guys go to ebay.com there are so many fakes movie version of "Leavning me Loving You" before and now and the saddest thing is that a lot of people buying and bidding before and as well as now. No wonder hong kong's industry entertainment are doing so bad. (hehe it is not like i would buy pirated things but i would never by fake leon's stuffs)
quadshock - April 9, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
o.o 88 = a bit over $10 USD...that's pretty cheap for a cd...
yeah if the government takes action, everyone (except the pirates) benefit. and the economy will grow. why don't they do it?
Ah_M - April 9, 2004 10:25 PM (GMT)
They're getting there I think...but the problem is if one is busted, another can come along very easily.
And cheaper CDs is a good thing. You know in the UK, some company is suing a few internet music shops for selling CDs from overseas (at cheaper prices) and threatening them to raise their prices! That is just dumb, it's like can't do anything about the pirates or p2p sharing so pick on the shops
