Simon Casey sails straight to No 1

'You're A Star' runner-up Simon Casey has topped the Irish singles chart with his debut release 'A Better Plan'.

The singer, from Ballycumber, County Offaly knocked Westlife's 'Tonight' from the top slot this weekend.

'A Better Plan', written by Westlife star Bryan McFadden, lost out to Mickey Joe Harte singing 'We've Got the World' in the final of RTÉ's search for a Eurovision entry last month.

Other new entries on the Irish singles chart include Avril Lavigne's 'I'm With You' at six, and 'Love Doesn't Have to Hurt' by Atomic Kitten at 13.

50 cent is at three with 'In Da Club', followed by Gareth Gates & The Kumars' 'Spirit In The Sky' at four and 'Make Luv' by Room 5 Feat. Oliver Cheatham at five.
