Westlife's Nicky Byrne

NO KISS FOR NICKY'S BRIDE

Crowds of Westlife fans descended on a small registry office in Ireland to catch a glimpse of band member Nicky Byrne as he tied the knot with the daughter of Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern.

The pop star married Georgina Ahern at a low key ceremony in Wicklow town ahead of a ceremony in France this weekend.

The pair were forced to exchange vows in Ireland first due to French marriage laws, which rule that a couple must have been living in France for 40 days for the ceremony to be legally binding.

Byrne wore a red baseball cap, T-shirt and jeans for the casual event at Wicklow Registry Office at 3.30pm.

He was met by about 100 young fans who had gathered outside from early in the morning.

But there was no kissing or posing for the cameras as the pair left separately - meaning that their one million euro (£706,000) deal for Hello! magazine will remain exclusive.

Westlife fan Nicola Dargan, 13, saw the pair as they left the registry office.

She said: "Nicky looked happy. He was wearing a red cap and he looked lovely."

Another onlooker, 13-year-old Ruth Neiland, added: "He looked gorgeous.

"But he looked very casual, it was as though it wasn't his wedding.

"He just walked right in and didn't say anything but he still looked lovely."

Hundreds of guests will head to France for the pair's wedding in the luxury Chateau d'Esclimont on Saturday.

WESTLIFE heart-throb NICKY BYRNE tied the knot yesterday — scruffily dressed in a back-to-front baseball cap and a blue T-shirt.

The singer wed Georgina Ahern at Wicklow Town register office, just outside Dublin.

In a break with tradition, Nicky kept Georgina waiting 20 minutes. He finally turned up in an Opel Astra with his mum in the back.

Nicky was talking on the phone and tried to shield his face from the crowd of fans. But they pushed forward past his heavies and surrounded the car.

A star-studded reception will be held at a magnificent French chateau on Saturday. Had the couple decided on a French wedding they would have had to be resident for 40 days beforehand.
