What first attracted you to Kerry?
I loved her personality. That's the truth. I mean, obviously I thought, she's gorgeous but you could tell she's a lovely girl on the inside. Her personality got me straight away!
When was the first time you saw her?
I first saw her when we were doing a TV Hits road show in Brighton together; Westlife and Atomic Kitten were performing on the same bill.
And did Kerry fancy you straight away?
Ha ha, no! I asked her out and she said no! Now she says she did like me really, we were all chatting her up at once. She was a bit overpowered, I think. She'd no idea who we were either – which was cool.
How did you eventually ask her out?
I asked her out then she said no. But she rang me later to invite me to a party at her hotel. Did you have a first date? No, we just met up whenever we could around work schedules. You can't call meeting at a TV studio a proper date, but we did spend lots of time together. Location wasn't important!
Was there something about her that made you think, "This is the girl for me?!"
Definitely. I couldn't figure out why I didn't want to spend any time away from her.
It must be extra hard being away just now.
Oh yeah. The phone companies love us, they do. We keep in contact twenty-four hours a day. Right now, I don't ever turn my phone off because of the baby.
What's the best compliment Kerry has given you?
She's always talking about my eyes. She says they match blue tops so I'm wearing a blue top today! It's odd; one thing she said she loved was my love of music. Early on, I was playing songs from our album and I was excited about them. And she liked that I was passionate about something.
Do you have anything of Kerry's that you carry with you?
Yeah, I have a little pouch, which she got in Japan two years ago. It's a love charm - you aren't allowed to open it! (Thinks) What else? I have my engagement ring, wedding ring, and I have photographs – one from the TV Hits two years ago and my favourite, where she's wearing a woolly hat. My auntie also gave me a blessed medal to protect Kerry.
How did you feel when you moved in together?
Erm, we moved at about three o'clock and by four o'clock I'd gone out again to do a concert at Belfast! We hadn't even unpacked, but it was great to be together. It didn't feel strange because we've been together on the road for ages.
Does Kerry ask you what you fancy for dinner?
We have chicken curry every night from the local takeaway down the road! They know our order!
What does the future hold?
I hope everything goes well for the baby, that Kerry and I are happy, we have a good life and that Westlife carries on being successful.
