Title: Question Of the Month (sorry @ztech)

Large Games
(Games over including and over 3000 points)
Are they fun? Is it worth the effort? What size board do you need to play them on ? Are there some armies that get overpowered/does the game balance go into disarray?

Having not played one yet I open the board to discussion.

You have played at least 5 4,000 points games, there were just two generals aside. That is pretty much how the battle itself will play out, but of course the army list composition would be different.

I think they're good every once in a while, or if you build up to one, but 2,000 points makes for a faster game, and is really what the game is designed for.

I once played in a 6000 points game (each side had three armies of 2000), but it was far too long. Infantry had barely reached close combat when we abandoned.

Personally I'm fine with 2000. I don't want to spend $150 or so for another 1000 points if I'm hardly going to play 3000 at all.

I prefer games of 2000 points or 2250 point. Even 1000-1500 point games are fun :).

In bigger games you tend to get very powerful characters that can turn the game by themselves, or you can get uber magic phases or whatever. 3000 points is still acceptable me thinks.

Big games are fun every now and then :).

Yes, Yes, work out the ratios- it depends on a game size. 3k can fit easily on a 6' by 4', but larger than that and increase the dimensions appropriately. Last time I played a large game was in 5th edition (I'm old!) so I'm not sure, but play it by ear. Units/etc that can barrel-roll along can overpower things a touch.

The 6/7th edition organisation charts keep Herohammer to a minimum, but 'ware multiple Lords.

Horde armies may find it difficult to deploy their large 3k armies on a 6x4 board though :P.

If it's really bad, I suppose. In that case an 8' table would probably be best.
