In a few days, I'll be participating in a tournament where, in the first round, we are encouraged to put together lists that are as friendly and as thematic as possible-- the more weaknesses a list has, the better. In other words, in the first round, list builds such as Dwarven Anvil gunlines, 2-catapult Tomb Kings, Skink horde Lizardmen and magic-heavy Vampire Counts, are not only discouraged, but, if the list doesn't gain a certain number of approval points by a panel of four judges, is disallowed entirely.
The grading criteria are as follows:
| QUOTE (Tournament Rules) |
Composition 12-15 points: Reserved for lists with many weaknesses. Lists that sacrifice efficiency for theme. For a list to score here, it must be purposefully weak. Very few, maybe 10% at most will score in this range. - Non-Stank or Archlector, infantry heavy Empire - Chaos or Wood/Dark Elven Infantry army / low magic - Ogres with <3 butchers and no Rhinox - Beastlord led, all beast army, low Chariot/Minotaur - O&G “Ard Boyz” type list with lots of Big’Uns, Black Orcs, and Boar Boys
Composition 8-11 points: A fair, competitive list, balanced in most phases of the game. A list here will have some, but no too much of the “good” stuff that an army book has to offer. - Combat oriented Lizards w/ Saurus - High Elves with only one RBT/1-2 chariots/no Dragons/Low magic - “One-of everything” style Bretonnians, heavy on the Peasants - Mid-Magic VC < 9PD
Composition 4-7 points: A standard, hard tournament army. Uses efficient combos and units to maximum effect. Has few bad match-ups. The strengths of the lists here are difficult to counter. - 2 Treemen Wood Elves - Tank/War Altar Empire - Most Demonic Legion and Sylvania builds - 2 SSC TK - Defensive Dwarves w/ Anvil
Composition 1-3 points: Armies here are not necessarily the most effective, but are generally the most annoying to play against. Very few, if any, will fall in this category. - Skirmishing Skink Horde or 6 Salamanders - Skaven max Magic and Shooting - Flying Circus (Brett or TzLegion) - HE Heavy magic - Max Treesinging, shooty WE - Gunlines
ANY ARMY RECEIVING FIFTEEN OR LESS TOTAL POINTS WILL BE REJECTED FROM THE TOURNAMENT. You'll have to go back to the drawing board. Any army scoring a 16-28 total on composition will have an automatic five point score deduction from overall battle score in Round One. |
With that in mind, here's my list:

10 Skinks- javelins- 60
10 Skinks- javelins, Scouts- 70

3 Kroxigor- 174
3 Terradons- 105
3 Salamanders0 195
Stegado- 235
Total: 1961
Any thoughts on this list? Do you think can do well? Alternatively, do you think that the presence of a JSOD, Huanchi Banner and 3 Salamanders will push it out of "friendly" territory?
(Also, how should I fill in the remaining points?)
Well I don't quite understand the setup-you say in the quote that you must have 16-28 'friendly points' and at least 15 but the grading seems to start at 15.
Anyway, the list (this is nearly a month old)...
Oldblood-I once played with a scar vet with quetzl, tepok, sotek, JSOD, enchanted shield light armour and that 65pt sword and he rocked (3000 pts versus bretts and something...) so there's no don;t they can be lethal but bearing in mind he is your general and not that more vicious than a scar vet would you consider taking no lords? Or maybe (this might be harsh) making him a defensive lord and give him 25pt that always strikes first (sword of the hornet...sorry never actually collected lizardmen), the defensive stuff you've given him and tepok?
I would try and make the other saurus unit (15) a but more bulked out as you just pay for the marks per unit.
I quite like the list, but can't really see why it's nice :P that's why i suggest a more saurus and defensive approach. I love skinks but maybe 30 is getting on for a bit harsh? Maybe some jungle swarms? And have you considered making it a themed army and adding some fluff?
Btw the specials are just how I would have them, but with maybe no stegadon.
SO quick edits:
Lose blowpipe skinks, JSOD and Banner for warbanner, enchanted shield and sword of the hornet and add 6 sauri and maybe a skink?
Oh and just thought-spider trap for old-blood as otherwise could get shot up?
Tournament probably over by now, and I know your a better lizardmen player than me but I just thought might be worth a go. Enjoy your games with them, that's the main thing.
