Title: I'm back

farsight - October 6, 2007 12:55 PM (GMT)
Hello everyone on WP

Just a quick post to say that Im back on the site again

I stopped posting a while ago because of revision for A level exams and a bit of a break, but now im back

Kind of strange as im now at uni so may have even less time

However I will try to visit the site again as much as possible

*To stop this post being seen as spam I will put something positive*

Is it worth buying the new Warhammer rulebook? I used to game in the last edition and stopped just before the latest rules update came out. So is there any point in getting the new book?

Apparently most of the rules are pretty much the same except for miscasts, fleeing/charging units and some other minor alterations.

Thanks, and hello to anyone who remembers me and hello to anyone who dosent know me yet.

Take Care

Dan

Welcome back Farsight! You were sure gone for a very long time. I'm glad to see your green writing once more, though I'll miss your tiger-rabbit. ^_^

If you still play Warhammer, you should probably get the new rulebook. I no longer play (not by choice, but by lack of partners), so I didn't buy it.

Unfortunately, the Palace has been in a deep coma for a few weeks, except for a few topics like this one. Most of us still visit it daily, though. Sadly, some long-time users have almost deserted it: Benedictus, for example, seems to post only in Chili's RPG and nowhere else.

KingTut - October 7, 2007 07:43 AM (GMT)
What armies do you play? If you have Orcs and Goblins and/or Dwarves I would strongly reccomend buying the Battle For Skull pass. For 10 pounds more you get minatures as well as rules. 50 goblins 1 troll 2 heroes, and 12 Dwarf Warriors, 10 Thunderers, 8 miners and 2 heroes. The mini rule book you get has no background or hobby section in it. But it does have all the rules, which seems to be what you are interested more than the hobby/background. Oh and Hello to you too.

Benedictus - October 7, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
Welcome back, Farsight.

@ztech: I still check the site on occasion, and post in other threads I find interesting. I have drifted from the game, though. Very far from the game, actually.

Burro Boskov - October 7, 2007 10:11 AM (GMT)
Yeah, the Palace has declined a bit. I came right about at the beginning of the "end". But as long as we keep attracting new blood every once in a while, I think we can keep on huffing it.

Wellcome back farsight. I came after you left, so Hello.

Welcome back Farsight :). Always great to see oldtimers return. Hope everything is good with you and that uni goes well!

farsight - October 9, 2007 08:36 PM (GMT)
Wow, nice to see so many replies  . Thanks to all

@ztech: The green writing is back indeed, cant seem to find the rabbit, it ran off to the moon with the wooden spoon.

I still do play Warhammer, however I am unsure whether to buy the new rules, simply because of the fact that like many things, I dont really need it. I pretty much know how to game (just not good at it ^_^ ) its just a few new rules to learn.

What you say about the Palace is no surprise to me, greatest of respect to everyone here but WP has never been the most active of forums, however it makes up for it with the quality of reply's to topics. I remember your avatar from before B) .

KingTut: Hello, like the avatar, what is it?

I have Slaanesh Mortal, Skaven, Lizardmen (also Nids, Tau, LOTR, all of which I gave up on a while back). Although at the moment I am only focussing solely on Slaanesh mortal, simply because I enjoy painting the models.

With the rules, if I was to I would probably buy the main rules, simply because I have no need of the Dwarf/Orcs in the starter pack. Plus the hobby advice in the previous edition rulebook was helpful while collecting.

Benedictus: Hello, nice to meet you

Burro Boskov: Hi to you too, not another dwarf  . Dont get me wrong, I dont have anything against them, its just there beards scare me!

Tyrion: Hello Tyrion, Im not a oldtimer yet, im only 18! I know what you mean though, and thank you :) .

University is going well, im studying Mental Health Nursing, its interesting but very challenging and more difficult than I thought it would be. Still its nice at the moment, I just am unsure whether I should be the Staff or the patient.... ^_^

I would go off on one on a rant about GW and its high prices, but it has been done before and I have left my mark. I just understand now that Games Workshop is in a niche market with little competition, so can charge the prices they like, the good thing is that the staff make up for it with their friendliness

Was considering Social Work myself, its very interesting work, I just enjoy mental health more, just a personnal preference ^_^ .

While im posting, I probably wont be on the site too much (Yeah surprise surprise I know  ) because of university taking up more time than I presumed, but like I said in the original post, my interest in the hobby has been rekindled.

I will just be a sneaky ninja :ph43r:

"@ztech: The green writing is back indeed, cant seem to find the rabbit, it ran off to the moon with the wooden spoon."-googles probably got a price on his head-or ears?

Anyway, seems like a good time to say thinking of startin again-where's derfel gone?

Great to see you here, and that all the users seem to be gathering round this little topic, stated by a great monument farsight.

See you round i hope, and good luck with uni.

farsight - October 11, 2007 07:35 PM (GMT)
Wow! Blood Dragon, nice to see you back again, you need a avatar Charles ^_^

Derfel, cant remember him, I can only remember a user called Omid.

:D

Im waiting for Chilli to comment here

Ah omid, the guy with the chicken picture. Whats an avatar? Is it the picture. Anyway, see you around. :P

farsight - October 11, 2007 07:55 PM (GMT)
A dancing chicken to be precise ^_^

Yeah, it´s really intresting. How long have you studied? I have studied almost 1½ years :). Nice to see that somebody studies something similar.

No time for anything more. Seriously, everything these people are saying about uni is true. And I'm doing Physics, so I have to work more than all these artsy-craftsy dilettantes. Pshaw, I say, sirs

King Tut, do you think Chili is possibly... Niles?

Our friend just out of nowhere started saying that. We were playing axis and allies, and whenever his millions of foot troops were mowed down by german tanks, he would say Pshaw, or "I am truly incompetent."

Slightly off topic, but it is too much of a coincidence.

I didnt know that you could go "off topic" in the off topic section???

Guess that is another neverending question

Is it possible to go off topic in this section... ^_^

Now that gets confusing

*Explodes*

Similar minds think alike, especially if you are a slightly less than sane ^_^

How long I have studied? Just started to be honest with you Tyrion, began last month (September). Its very interesting so far, just a shock to the system with the amount of study to do, then again, its just a matter of time management.

I think I can go on to study counselling for a year at the end of my degree, but I will address that when I get to the end of the degree

Ooh Chilli you are a funny one, but I do have a certain amount of respect for Physics, my head would explode, then again I respect all uni students, except those who are studying for a degree in:

"Surf Science"

You can tell the state of the world when a person can get a degree in surfing ^_^

dilettantes: "a person who takes up an art, activity, or subject merely for amusement, esp. in a desultory or superficial way; dabbler. "

Surely you are not telling me I am learning Mental Health for amusement? Not many artsy types would experiance trying to speak a person out of doing things which may be a major risk to their health (For lack of better way of explaining the role without causing offence). Ive been told stories that would make a physician scared out of their skin

Still, we are all Brothers and Sisters in Learning at the end of the day, even if some of us study Physics :P

Knew I could drag you away from the RPG section :D

LordChilipepa - October 12, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
The definition from the Chili English Dictionary is

"dilettante: anyone who does not have to use calculus in their degree."
"artsy-craftsy: anyone without access to a laboratory containing at least one laser."

Clearly we differ only on semantics.

@ztech - October 12, 2007 10:04 PM (GMT)
Don't listen to him, Farsight: physics students all seem to have a superiority complex. The best way to deal with them is to ignore them.

farsight - October 13, 2007 01:58 PM (GMT)
All humans have a superiority complex, why does everyone of us have a bank account or money, thats superiority.

Its just varying degrees of superioty, but I suppose its the person that matters, you can get people who arent on the level in all walks of life, it isnt the uni course that makes them it.

^_^

Swordsalot - October 14, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
I don't have money to be superior: I have in case I want something in the future (new car, deposit on the house, whatever), and to stay alive now.

I'd define artsy crafty as any degree that doesn't clearly lead to a clear job. In most cases it's similar to chili's definition, except it also blocks those pansy science students from declaring themselves a proper degree :P

LordChilipepa - October 14, 2007 09:27 AM (GMT)
Physicists have the most real jobs of anyone!

What exactly is this pray tell?

As a starting physicists (HL 1) could you enlighten me?

Burro Boskov

LordChilipepa - October 14, 2007 09:46 AM (GMT)
That is the ATLAS Large Hadron Collider at CERN. It goes live in May 2008, and will provide experimental results to either verify or falsify certain vital aspects of quantum theory.

Essentially, it smacks subatomic particles into each other really, really fast.

farsight - October 14, 2007 01:59 PM (GMT)
Okay that is pretty intelligent stuff, but arent the blue things peoples hard hats? rather than actual people, or is it just me.....

That is a fancy engine, and kinda big, but dont forget the most important engine in the world

The mind

Now that is far more complicated than that very large machine :D

However it is not unbreakable, hence why I want a degree in what I study

KingTut - October 14, 2007 06:10 PM (GMT)
Burro,
You are truly incompetent

My avatar is of a character in Jon Schaffer's own personal mascot. Set Abomnibae. I just thought it looked cool.

Any way back to physics. Why would they want to ram subatomic particles together?

Then again who woudn't?

LordChilipepa - October 14, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
The layman's explanation (which is only barely less profound than my own understanding, considering how early on it is in my course) is that, thanks to Einstein's famous equation, slamming particles together at different energies results in them breaking apart and forming different particles. The higher the energy you slam them together at (thanks to their tiny mass, and the size of the accelerators, you can get them to an appreciable fraction of light speed), the more of it can be converted into mass in the new particles, and the more and more exotic types of particles can be observed. Most of these particles are highly unstable (they quickly decay back into more common particles), and have only been observed when created in lab conditions.

The point of the experiment at CERN is to produce particles that current consensus quantum theory predicts should exist: it's an empirical test of the more abstract end of current physics. The most famous/important particle that they're looking to produce is the Higgs Boson: if it can be observed to be created in the collision designed to bring it forth, even though it will only be in existence for the tiniest moment, it will justify a lot of quantum mechanics, and if it is conspicuously absent, it will strongly point to a flaw in the theory.

Owaria - October 14, 2007 11:16 PM (GMT)
And welcome back. I still play but the war gaming society at Winchester is mostly playing 40K, so my Tau are currently trying to expand their empire.

You lot can go and work out how to throw things really quickly and how to help people's mental health, I will stick with digging holes and making them sound interesting.
