Title: A question abut sprues...

ladders - August 27, 2007 11:21 AM (GMT)
I read in another topic that someone (I'm sorry, I can't remember who it was) buys Dryad sprues from the GW site rather than the boxes as there are four figures to sprue, making it easier to add units.

My question is, how many figures do you get from a Glade Guard sprue? and also, do the sprues come with bases or do you have to buy those separately?

Thanks in advance.

If you go to the relevant box on the Online Store, you can usually see a picture of the sprue listed as a 'component'. I'm seeing 4 Glade Guard to a sprue.

Failing that, you can usually tell the number of models on a sprue by whether the number supplied in the box is a multiple of five or a multiple of four. If there are 20 to a box, it's usually 5 to a sprue.

I've always been supplied with the bases I need without needing to ask when I've ordered bitz from GW before, so I wouldn't think there'd be any need to order them separately. However, if you're concerned about it, place your order via phone, and ask to make sure.

As there's 16 to a box it seems that there's 4 per sprue. Which means that, to get the number of figures I'd need, it would actually cost the same as buying an entire box.

Thank you for you help, I know what to buy now.

Indeed, buying sprues separetly isnt usually worth it as they are suprisingly expensive  . Better to go with the boxed sets.

Oh, don't buy all your minis on sprues. Egad, no. What Xarhain was talking about in that thread was how to get the right no. of models - i.e. if you need 20 Glade Guard, you buy the box and an additional sprue, rather than buying two boxes and being left with an empty wallet/spare figs.

I didn't mean I'd buy all of them on sprues. The thing is my 2k army has 25 Glade Guard (2X10 and 5 scouts).

I'd rather have bought 28 figures (1 box of 16 and 3 sprues of 4) than 32 figures, if it had ben cheaper, but my point was that 3 sprues of four costs the same as a box of 16.

Have you considered the wood elf batallion?

That has 24 archers, a box of dryads, a box of glade riders. I know you're not too keen on cavalry, but it's a pretty good deal for getting 24 archers. As for the extra 1 archer: well, you could always try your hand at hacking up a glade rider and mounting him on an infantry base.

Basically: in Aus it's 3.5 boxes for the price of 3. If you don't have a use for glade riders, sell the sprues on ebay and you should recoup at least half of what they're worth.

Thanks for the advice, hadn't even looked at the battalion box, but my army list has changed since this I posted this topic.

I'm not going to use scouts, only the glade guard, therefore I can get a box of 16 and sprue of 4 much cheaper than having to buy more.
