Title: Does anyone here play 40k?

KingTut - August 21, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
Well does anyone? Currently play that is.

Well, there's me. I think Chili played for a while, but stopped.

I play it, and have played it since 2nd. Ed., though a lot less then warhammer. I have a chaos space marine and an imperial guard army.

I just find that 40k is a lot more "streamlined" then WFB I see a lot less rules lawyering in 40k then fantasy. Then again they are both great games in their own ways. 40k just seems easier to "pick up and play" then fantasy.

The original post says who currently plays, but used to play 40k Tau and Nids, however that was before the newer nid changes.

With the old metal Carnifex ^_^

Prefer the Fantasy game system, it is more challenging to me, 40k tends to be a point and shoot kind of game, well, from the last time I watched a game in GW the other day.

Like most things its all about preferences, plus the fact that many get into the hobby through 40k (or LOTR) then onto Fantasy.

Well I recently picked up the Cities of Death Expansion and this is a great way to change from the "line 'em up knock 'em down" bias that is towards 40k

I used to play it, when a few friends and I discovered GW games. I would rather have played Fantasy, but my friends insisted to play 40K. I liked it, but I liked it even better when we switched to Fantasy, even if that meant spending yet more money for a new army.

I still prefer Fantasy. Close combat: that's what real life is all about. ^_^

Well this poses the question. why do people prefer fantasy over 40k. Most people (at least on this forum) drop 40k once they start up fantasy. Is this a time issue or do they just lose intrest in 40k. Both games have their ups and downs. It seems to me that the emphasis is on movement in fantasy and shooting in 40k.

I find amongst friends and random people I meet that are into GW, that 40K is by far and away more popular than fantasy. More people play it, more collect it, and there are more 'casual' gamers that play ONLY 40K. Even amongst hardcore multiple-system gamers, most play more games of and pay more attention to 40K than fantasy.

This forum may have a bias the other way because it is a) called "Warhammer Palace" and not Warhammer 40K Empire"or something similar, and B) Those of us that remain here are very much fantasy players, and newcomers who enter are the same.

If I switched to Fantasy, it was for the LotR-style universe, not for the rules. But now I prefer the rules of Fantasy. This is not to say that I don't like 40K.

I wish there were more people playing Fantasy. Can't we convince the 40K players that it is mighty Sigmar, not their brain-dead Emperor, who is the one true god?

Well personally I think that the background is more detailed in 40k than in Fantasy as they have entire worlds to create rather than the single old world area of Fantasy. However I get a rush from seeing large troops rank upon rank lined up to fight. This is one of the reasons I personally chose fantasy. However the allure of 40k was too great for me last summer and I purchased a fledgling eldar force (because they had been recently redone and I like the sleek look of thier models and the background for them is great). After reading the rules of both system it seems that 40k is more flexible than fantasy when it comes to innovation.
