Title: 2000p Cav-based army

Tchakolli - June 25, 2007 11:03 PM (GMT)
Characters:
1x Templar Grand Master (GW) - 145p
2x Warrior Priests (GW, Mount, Barding, HA) - 224p
1x Battle Wizard (Lv2, Mount, Barding) - 114p

S/A: 483p

Core:
10x Flagellants - 100p
9x Knightly Orders (FullC, GW) - 247p
5x Knightly Orders (FullC, Lance) - 155p
5x Knightly Orders (FullC, Lance) - 155p
15x Huntsmen - 150p

S/A: 807p

Special:
9x Knights of the Inner Circle (FullC, Lance) - 274p
5x Pistoliers - 90p
5x Outriders (C with HRifle) - 126p
1x Great Cannon - 100p

S/A: 590p

Total: 1880p, this leaves 120p for magic items. Banner of the Daemonslayer seems like a good choice for one of the 5x Knights regiments. Van Horstmann's Speculum could be used to allow the wizard to be in a unit of knights. A magic weapon for one of the characters could be nice and I'l need some dispel scrolls.

The general tactic is to go at the enemy with the two big regiments of knights, with the two smaller ones guarding the flanks. The pistoliers and outriders soften up the enemy and assist with flank charges. The flagellants stay back to guard the great cannon, and the huntsmen are deployed as scouts to pick off enemy warmachine crews that could hurt the knights. The grandmaster goes with the GW-wielding knights unit. Then one priest goes with the other 9x knights unit, and the other with one of the 5x units. The wizard goes with the other 5x unit.

I haven't played Empire before and this is my first list. It seems like alot of power in 2000p compared to what I usually play (Dwarfs). Feel free to add any comments, criticism, useful tips or whatever!

The Templar Grand Master must be mounted, am I wrong? If that is so, you waste a fairly good Initiative and some armor save for only a +1 Strength bonus. Give him the Sword of Power and a good magical armor. ;)

I'm a little skeptical about the usefulness of a single Lv2 spellcaster in a game of 2000 points: in such a game, your opponent should have enough dispel dice and scrolls to thwart all or almost all your attempts to cast anything. Either you take another wizard or you just stick to a Lv1 scroll caddy.

Aren't they a Rare choice?

You should instead take 5 or 6 Knights of the White Wolf with the Inner Circle upgrade: you get S6 when charging and S5 the rest of the time.

Scouting units don't need to be so big.

I have no comments about the rest.

He is mounted by default, no? But yeah, a magic weapon sounds like a good idea.

Lv1 scroll caddy it is then.

Since I'm using a warrior priest, they become a core choice.

I don't have enough special choices for that, and I think I need atleast two large regiments of knights.

What @ztech said basically. Actually the level 2 upgrade is worthwile since you have warrior priests in there. Dont they add power dice aswell? Casting spells makes it easier to get the prayers through. The crystal ball is a great and cheap item for what it does, can be really powerfull to know what your enemy is up to at times :).

I would not take white wolf anyway because now they all have great weapons not cavalry hammers.

What?!

Now that really sucks. If GW thought cav hammers were overpowered, they could just have decided that now they count as halberds.
