Title: The Carroburg Horde Returns
Description: Quekrit's Back!

LordChilipepa - June 20, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
So, today I finally finished basing the last of me Stormvermin... which means that the Carroburg Horde is finally complete! Below are the pics of the finished 2000pt army:

I know Stormvermin get a bad rep, but they're there because I reckon Quekrit's ego wouldn't settle for Clanrats, and also because they allow me to pull a rather nifty combination of banners (unit with Banner of the Swarm + BSB with War Banner = CR 8 before any blows are struck). Plus, WS4 and S4 mean that in combination with the Bell's Impact Hits and the chance of it giving them Frenzy or Hatred, the unit may actually at some points become dangerous in combat.

The great pity of it all is that I don't have an opponent to swarm right now. I needs to find me some free Thursdays to go down the GW, and then you might see some battle reports from the furry swarm of death (if I can be bothered).

And yes, I did just post these because I wanted to out-do Burp. 126 Skaven plus Rats and Rat Ogres! And a great big Bell!

Rogue-Gladiator - June 20, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
Very nice Chili, it's quite a horde. Think you could show us a few close up pictures that would give us a better idea of each unit's specific appearance, or are they all covered in you previous post somewhere? Either way, superb work

*sigh* you and burp are making this harder for me- I'll have to scupt my own army to outdo both of you.

As you wish:

Apologies for the dark photos... you can't see the Clawleader's marvellous sword of 5th edition crimson :(

Everyone but the Stormvermin are in the thread 'skavenskavenskaven', somewhere else on this forum.

Still can't get over the massive height of the screaming bell. That must of been murder to prop up.

LordChilipepa - June 20, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
Prop up?

When I built it, it stood straight: it was only after the glue had set and the whole framework had been put together that I set it at an angle.

Lord of Nonsensical Crap - June 21, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
(Does Borat thumbs-up) It's veeery niiiiiiiice!

Mayhaps we'll be seeing a batrep of the Carroburg horde in action sometime?

LordChilipepa - June 21, 2007 07:31 PM (GMT)
Got to find me an opponent first. Preferably an Empire one. Although, working on precedent, Quekrit will have an unfortunate encounter with some Waywatchers on his first outing.

*squeak-splat*

LordKjarl - June 22, 2007 10:06 AM (GMT)
They look great. If only I had the patience of painting such a large force <_< .

@ztech - June 22, 2007 01:36 PM (GMT)
If only I just had such a large force... <_<

LordChilipepa - June 22, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
Well, the option's always open to you, if you use peasants instead of tin-can men.

Something I've always wanted to see is a French Revolution-based Bret army.

Chili, me Pip-squeak, that's a beautiful looking army. I love the bell tower. Its a nice psychological attack on your opponent before you even start playing.

I know I've said it elsewhere before, but I remember your Lustrian army at Conflict London in 2005... your painting is so much more full of flavour and character now.

;)

Big respect

Hmmmmmm. I'm letting my Black Orcs go, in favour of Wolf Riders, maybe one day I'll go 'goblin only' just to out horde you!!!

Burp!

LordChilipepa - June 23, 2007 06:04 PM (GMT)
Meh, I doubt the psychological advantages of the bell. Unless my opponent is only nine inches tall, it's probably going to scream "Target!" more than "Fear me!". But as long as it's screaming something, I'm happy. Understated subtlety is not the Skaven way.

Back in 2005... aye, my painting has changed a lot since then. Although, to be fair, I've been building my lizard army since I was nine. At any one time, a lot of the models I'll be fielding will date back a few years in terms of paintjobs.

If you manage the goblin horde, we must arrange to meet at a tournament somewhere. I've got a warlord list with even more ratties in the works... I reckon we could probably make it so that you can't see the table if I get me some slaves.

Although, that would mean giving up on the sight of the bell ploughing into a sea of gobbos...

Sounds like a nice plan.. if we both just went for as much horde as possible... 2009 maybe!!! ? :D

LordChilipepa - June 23, 2007 07:36 PM (GMT)
Maybe. We'll have to see.

Benedictus - June 23, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
I require photos, if this thing ever happens. Oh yes.

LordChilipepa - July 19, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
Got my first game in with this list today... well, half-game, had to pack up on turn 3. I got my arse handed to me by an Empire gunline with Balthasar Gelt and some wretched magic item that steals your spells (which is vicious when it steals Warp Lightning from your Warlock), but the important thing is that Quekrit took a cannonball to the chest and lived. Seems you can't kill a dead man rat.

Tyrion - July 21, 2007 11:29 AM (GMT)
Sounds nasty, who would have won? any way of telling?

LordChilipepa - July 21, 2007 01:17 PM (GMT)
He was definitely going to win.

@ztech - July 21, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)
Saying that you know for sure who will 'definitely' be the winner in a game involving Skaven is pretty much like claiming godhood.

Just say that the odds weren't in your favor.

Benedictus - July 21, 2007 03:11 PM (GMT)
Not true. If Chili was getting his arse handed to him by an Imperial gunline, it's usually pretty safe to realise who is winning and who is not.

@ztech - July 21, 2007 03:48 PM (GMT)
Benedictus, we're talking about Skaven here. Nothing is ever certain. :P

LordChilipepa - July 21, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
Nothing the Skaven do is ever certain.

However, the enemy is free to be as reliable as they wish. And even though the Helblaster had taken itself out along with most of my Plague Monks, I still had a Helstorm, a Mortar, a Cannon, a bucketload of Handgunners and Pistoliers, Balthasar Gelt and two Level 2s pointed at my army, which had already taken quite a few direct hits. The Stormvermin were so depleted that they couldn't push the Bell any more, it was stuck in the middle of the table, and one of my Clanrat units had practically been wiped out in a single mortar shot. The only models in the army that were still capable of doing any damage were Quekrit and my three surviving Plague Censers.

Mine was not a GT list, his was. That was pretty much the end of it.

Tyrion - July 22, 2007 12:22 PM (GMT)
I reckon that balthasar gelt is pretty nasty. Was some time I went over his rules, but from what I remember he´s quite good.

Wilko - July 23, 2007 02:15 AM (GMT)
I remember playing against him with my High Elves. He flew over next to my swordmasters and melted my swords when I was in combat with his halbediers, even though I had no great weapons, I was still able to punch him to death ^_^
