| History is such a funny thing. It holds great secrets. Powerful and daunting mysteries. Advice. Warnings. Yet no-one seems to learn to it. A darkness is settling on the world of Warhammer. The Storm of Chaos is all but over, with but a few renegade bands of Chaos worshippers roaming the lands of the Empire, led by Lords still seeking to make a name for themselves. The Empire lies shattered. Archaon, Lord of the End Times, herald of the Chaos Gods, lay to waste all that stood before him, until he was turned back from the siege of Middenheim by the God Sigmar reborn. In the form of a man named Valten, Sigmar dealt grievous wounds to Archaon, and vice versa. The intervention of the Orc Warlord named Grimgor Ironhide caused Archaon to retreat, taking with him his armies of Chaos. Back to the Chaos Wastes they fled, as opposed to rumours that they went to the ruins of Brass Keep. Valten was grievously wounded, and vanished from his place of recovery. The Emperor, Karl-Franz, once more took leadership of the Empire's Armies. The world is changing. Dwarves and Elves, still holding a long forgotten grudge, gradually make peace as they strive to rebuild what was lost. Bretonnia sallies forth to aid its allies, but not without expending much of its energy to protect its borders. The belief is common; Chaos has been thrown back once more and this is a time of rest and recovery. It is a ... flawed, belief at best. For all of the 'good' races were decieved. History, it would seem, is repeating itself. Somewhere within the World of Warhammer, a weapon has been discovered. But this is not just any weapon. It is the Hammer of Darkness. Like many artifacts of the world, this weapon was forged by the Dwarves and has tremendous power, but it was lost to history. Now, something has stirred each race to begin searching for this weapon, though no-one yet knows where it is. They search blindly. Deep in Skavenblight, in the heart of the blighted city, the Council of Thirteen, rulers of all Skavendom, plot their most insidious works. With the lands above now lying in ruins, they feel that is right for the Skaven to rise up and take the powerful Dwarven weapon they have heard off. Sending out scouts and assassins, they do their best to locate it before everyone else. Though they may have been beaten, the lackeys of the Chaos Gods have never been known to flee from a good fight if they can help it. Those that did not follow Archaon to the Chaos Wastes ready themselves in warbands under their leaders. Alongside the Chaos Warriors, the Dark Elves of Naggaroth prepare to face their old enemies, the High Elves, in combat once more. Whilst Malekith, the Witch-King, may not lead them, they are by no means weaker than if he should. Beastmen and Vampires rise to the calls of their leaders, preparing their foul forces and readying themselves for, as the Skaven predicted, the war that is to come. The world of Warhammer has just left one war ... can it survive another? I suppose the true question is ... will you help it survive ... or will you help it burn? The Hammer of Darkness will lead to either salvation ... or eternal damnation and darkness. It must be found ... Scholar Lucas Ba'Har House of Emperor Karl-Franz Imperial Year 2608 |
