Title: Revised 500pts Mortals
9ine - May 30, 2007 10:01 AM (GMT)
Well, Ive made a revised army list.
Asp. Champ. of Chaos - 114pts
Two hand weapons; armour of damnation
11 Warriors of Chaos - 195pts
hand weapons; shields; heavy armour; full command
16 Marauders of Chaos - 143pts
hand weapons; shields; light armour; full command
8 Warhounds of Chaos - 48pts
500pts
The plan is to have the Aspiring Champion attached to the unit of Chaos Warriors and to march up the middle whilst the Marauders take the right flank and the Chaos Hounds will take the left, hoping to oppucate the enemy forces. I'll be playing a High Elf Force and a Lizardmen Force.

Should be good, If you fear lots of shooting against your warriors, you could always use the hounds as a screen. Other wise, not a bad list.

Does your Lizardman opponent use Saurii in his warbands?
If he does, you're good. If he's being sensible and using a Krox/Skink warband, he will take this list apart with ease.
Your problem here is that you have two bulky, cumbersome units of infantry, and one weak (and still rather unwieldy) mobile unit. Considering the size of the Hounds unit, it's not going to be hard for a manouevreable enemy to get the drop on them and send them running for the table edge, or just plain wipe them out. Once they're gone, I really can't see how you'd avoid your other two units getting flanked.
I'd drop the Marauders down to 15, putting them in three ranks of five, and lose their musician or champion in order to pay for two more Hounds. You can then split the Hounds into two units of five, one to guard each flank: due to their manageable frontage, these units will be able to do a much better job of protecting the edges of your battle line and harassing the enemy. If you drop a Chaos Warrior, you can hopefully then give the Aspiring Champion a Chaos Steed: this will give you an extra attack in combat, allow him to charge out of the unit to hunt enemy skirmishers & help your Hounds, and will fill out the missing Warrior's place with the back of the cavalry base. 'Course, he won't be able to use the two hand weapons on horseback: I'd go with a halberd instead, as you're rather lacking in high-strength attacks anyway.

It's a pure Saurus force, and the High Elves contain a 15-man heavy unit of Swordsmen of Hoeth.

In that case you have a pretty good list since chaos warriors easily outmatch most infantry units in the game. But a general thumbrule in small games in to have as many units as possible. That increses that chance that you can outmanouvre your opponent.

Ah, righty. In that case, you're fortunate in that your enemies aren't set up to exploit the list's weaknesses, and you should do alright.

Don't they come with heavy armor?
Both your main units seem like more the anvil type. Champions are not necessarily worth their cost, unless there's a character to protect. If you removed both champs and one Warhound, you could get yourself 4 more Marauders and make another rank.

Except that it's 7th Edition now, so you need 5 to a rank.

16 + 4 = 20.

Lol. I'm considering making an all-Marauder force for 500pts. Watcha think?

That's an original idea.
Marauders are most of the time used as cannon-fodder, but at a basic cost of 5 points each, they have a fairly decent stat-line. If you had some variety (like marauders with GW, marauders with HW and shield, mounted marauders, warhounds, etc.), maybe it would be okay. But a strong hero would be necessary, to add some punch.

A marauder force would give more bang for the buck really. They have better stat lines than most human like things in the warhammer world has and still they are dead cheap. Marauders with marauder horsemen as support. Could be effective B) .
