Hmm ... on the whole, not too bad a list. I do have a few qualms, though.

1) Why are ALL your fighty-unit detachments spearmen? And why are there two spearmen detachments to each larger one? If they countercharge or do the other chargy thingy, they lose the advantage of the spears, unless they get around this somehow. I'd much prefer to see halberdiers or even crossbowmen in there. That's a lot of points that could, in my opinion, be spent better. Either change some of the detachments or drop them. That many spearmen units does not look good to me.

2) Personally, I don't think the marksman on the handgunners is worth his five points unles you give him a spiffy gun.

3) I am not in favour of the Steam Tank. You have to be lucky to get it to do a lot without losing some wounds, and once you start losing wounds then it gets less and less effective. Again, I would spend the points elsewhere.

4) Your general and captain seem pretty tame, but not altogether bad if you want to keep them simple. If you do get some extra points, I'd consider beefing them up, but not before perhaps getting another unit of infantry.

1) Why on EARTH do you have spearmen detachments? Detachments are for counter-charging, not defending. Replace them with Free Company or Halberdiers post-haste. Swordsmen could work as well.

2) Don't bother with Marksmen on handgunners unless you're going to give them a decent weapon.

3) Drop one of the wizards and lose a level on 'im. Empire cannot win magic fights without going magic heavy, and it's clear that's not what you're attempting here. While I'm at it, I'd drop the Steam Tank and replace it with some cannons (2) OR mortars (2), because it a) makes more targets for the enemy and B) gives you more things to shoot with and c) it frees up points for more infantry.

With those extra points, get some Ward saves on the BSB and the General, another dispel scroll for the remaining wizard and try to get another regiment of state troops. Oh, and give the Greatswords a detachment.*

4) Consider swapping out the Outriders for Pistoliers. They can move and shoot and are also decent flanking/rear-charging troops. Just a suggestion.

*I don't do this, but I like the look of Greatswords sans detachments. I'm not sure how 'pretty' you're trying to make this army.

I have to agree with the Thragka on the spearmen. Counter charge is thier main use, and with spears, its not that good. In the next round it would work well, but in the first round, it would be bad.

I suggest making the large blocks spearmen, and then the detachments either halberdiers or swordsmen, as spears are better off at taking a charge then anything else. A ranged detachment wouldn't be too bad either.

Pretty standard IŽd say. One thing though, I would much rather see spearmen as the parent unit, with a detachment of either militia or halberdiers. Halberdiers are better off as a detachment unit. The swordsmen looks fine :) .

I forgot about the if they charge they lose the advantages of their spears.
I want to use the steam tank because its "teh steam tank!11!!" and also i lurve the model.
Yes, I think i will change the halberdiers into another swordsmen unit and then have halberdier detachments.
so basically just have a scroll caddy wizard?

Will write more later and thanks for the early replies!

Greatswords are stubborn, aren't they? If you remove one rank, you can get them two detachments of 5 halberdiers or free comps each. I think it would be better. A mere +1 for the rank bonus is not as good as negating the enemy's ranks.

Yes.

To me, magic is just a waste of points, so I'm not exactly impartial about the matter...

Empire Wizards have the most versatile array of spell choices, chosing from all around the 8 winds of Chaos. I'd say keep the magic level as it is now. It keeps you versatile, just like you would want to be.

Well @ztech you do play brettonians which have a very limited need for magic. (not in a negative way but i just dont see how beasts or life helps bretonnians) And also if i negate their ranks and i win by 3+ I will feel much safer than winning by 2+ think about it. Ld 9-2 = 7 average ld 9-3 = 6 below average.
@ benedictus I like my armies pretty.... I dont nessarily play to win but play for fun but winning is always nice.
