This is my first ever Wood Elf armylist. I don't actually have any miniatures so far, I'm just sketching on ideas for an army since I plan on starting with Wood Elves soon. The main inspiration for this list comes from the sample ambusher army at the GW site. I want an army that is extremely mobile, with lots of scouts so that in a turn or two I won't have a battleline for the enemy to move against and I'l just be picking off his units as I get them. The highborn will be used to pick off enemy characters which can be very useful against those armies that could fare well against the above, namely horde armies like the undead, orcs and goblins or skaven. The noble with the moonstone will deploy in a unit of glade riders so that they can "teleport" behind enemy lines. The branchwraith will go with one of the dryad units and the spellsinger with the other glade riders unit.

What do you think? Any comments, suggestion, criticism or whatever is highly appriciated, I don't know much about WE and need all the help I can get :D !

Do you by any chance happen to like Waywatchers?
I don't think you need so many. They're pretty expensive.

Most of your units, though, are pretty small. You'll need to be an excellent strategist if you want to use them well: they won't stand for very long in close combat with so little static CR. Remember that units of fast cavalry are essential to win with a list like this one, but tend to drop like flies under magic and missile fire.

Are you sure 5 Wardancers can make any difference? Wardancers are good, but 5 of them will be nothing more than tiresome.

I do like Waywatchers, yes B) . I put that many in the list because I want something that can take care of heavily-armored enemy units (eg, bretonnian cavalry). Also, with BS 5, you get alot of hits when using Waywatchers.

The Wardancers I just threw in to fill out points. You're right in that they would probably not make alot of difference, so dropping them in favor for some larger regiments of wild riders or glade riders might be a good idea...

But like said I've never actually played Wood Elves so I don't know about the feasibility of it all.

Ok first of this guy i do not understand as far as i know the hunter talons special rule cannot be used with magic arrows which will make the hagbane arrows useless.

The mention that you want something to deal with amoured knights, well how about a Highborn (alter) with the bow of loren and arcane bodkins which would be around 4 -5 shoots ignoring armour saves and if your against bretonian knights they will only get there ward save at 6 as your only strength 3.

Also with the use of soo many scouts may i suggest dropping the size of the 10 to make points for the banner of zenith that stops marching with 12 inches. Also try make space for the sprite that gives you one dispel dice if you want to make space for this you could drop the horse of the spell singer so he cannot be targeted easily.

That's better, but...

3x Warhawk Riders (champion) - 140p

Take a Musician instead. If you don't want to protect a character from challenges, a champ is not worth it. A musie, though, is always useful for units like this one.

It doesn't say that you can upgrade it with a Musician...

*checks WE army book*

Oh, you're right... Sorry, my bad.

But the Champion upgrade is, at 20 points, much too expensive. One additional S3 attack (S4 when charging) is not worth that much.

Tchakolli - April 5, 2007 11:52 PM (GMT)
Probably, but I don't know what else to do with the points. Filling out extra models requires extra monetary spending.

Swordsalot - April 6, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
Could always bulk out the glade riders: you won't be able to get 10 of them anyway, since they come in batches of 8. Alternately, you could get a standard with the war banner, or the one that makes them better marchblockers (can't remember which).
