Title: A doubles tournament army list(s)
Description: A joint army by me and burro
KingTut - March 29, 2007 07:22 PM (GMT)
This summer me and Burro plan to attend the Warhammer Doubles Tournament at Warhammer World in Nottingham.
We would like some feedback on our lists.
The Format is each player force needs
1 core unit
1 hero to be the general
The combined army must adhere to the 1500 point army rules
1-3 heroes
2+ Core
0-3 Special
0-1 Rare
We are going to be a Dwarf and Tomb King alliance (not the brightest but it will be very fun to play with)
My list
Tomb Prince
Flail of Skulls (counts as flail and doubles wounds caused)
Liche Priest Cloak of Dunes (allows LP to fly)
23 Skeleton warriors HW and Shield Champion and Standard Bearer
3 Chariots
3 Carrion
Screaming Skull Catapult
I think the list is roughly 746 points.
Burro will post his shortly and then the commenting can begin/ tournament experience and advice
Thanks for your help

My List goes a little something like this,
19 Longbeards
Shields
FC
20 Warriors
GW
Shields
FC
2Bolt throwers
Engineers
1 Rune of Penetrating
Thane
Shield
RoStone
MRoTaunting
Now I want to try to fit an oath stone on to my thane, as it would be a new layer of possibilities, and quite frankly, we need all the options we can since it isn't the most perfect alliance.
anyway, C+C if you please.

Beautiful Dwarf Army only thing I would change is to swap the Master Rune of Challenge for Master Rune of Gromril and Grab a Great Weapon for the Rune of Stone.
But that is minor good job on the list.
@ztech - March 30, 2007 12:06 AM (GMT)
I'd try to fit a small unit of fast cav in the Tomb King list. It could be efficient if used with the help of the big Dwarf blocks.
I also heard somewhere that the Skulls of the Enemy option for the Catapult of the Screaming Skull is a no-brainer choice. I don't know what it does, though.
And why a Tomb Swarm? Your bearded allies do exactly what swarms do: they get the enemy stuck in one spot for a frustrating number of turns.
I don't think you need a Skeleton champion, either. One additional WS2-S3-I2 attack in an unit of 23 that relies on static CR and Fear to win? Ain't worth it.
-----------------------------
For the Dwarf list, I don't have much to comment about. Sounds pretty good. If you want another Rune of Penetrating for the other bolt thrower, drop the Warriors' shields as well as their useless champion. It's your choice, of course.

I belive the "skulls of the enemy" forces the opponent to take a panic test if at least one casualty is caused :). Pretty good in other words. Having 2 catapults would be just nasty, but sadly not a possibility here I belive.
Burro Boskov - March 31, 2007 12:59 PM (GMT)
The MR of Challenge is there because of the missions we will play. One is a hold the objective mission, and the ability to pull an enemy unit away will be invaluable in that case.

The catapult on its own causes a panic test when at least one wound is caused. The Skulls of the Foe upgrade, which is how the name is given in the English army book, causes this panic test to inculde a -1 modifier to the leadership of the unit testing.
Burro Boskov - April 15, 2007 08:14 PM (GMT)
After play testing this army once, I have some changes I would like to discuss with all.
It has come to my realisation that my Thane can be THE general killer. Mr of Challenge and the oathstone would make sure he fights, and thusly challenge, exactly who he needs to.
But in his current incarnation, he isn't exactly, as they say, "Pimped out".
Grudge rune is good, but strength 4 wont do better then 4+'s in most cases (unless I fight some elves).
So what we are looking for is a strength 5 attack, which can be given by a GW, but this will make him strike last (not that big a problem), but also can only give him a 3+ save at best in combat.
He obviously needs a runic weapon, hopefully one with a grudge rune. But where to get the points?
Option a). Drop warriors down to 15.
+ gives lots of points
- Loses their effectivness greatly!
Option B). Drop the engineers on the BT's
+ gives 30 points, which can make a decent combo
- Hitting on a 4+ normally isn't so fun.
Option c). Drop one engineer, and 2 warriors
+same points about, keeps one BT at full capacity, and warriors can take a few casualities before going down to 1+ on the rank bonus.
- see above
If I had to chose now, it would be option C. What do you guys think? See any other options?
Burro Boskov
Thragka - April 15, 2007 08:44 PM (GMT)
I would go for option C. Your main unit is you Ironbreakers, and your warriors didn't actually do that much in the playtest if I recall correctly. Besides, hitting on a 4+ isn't too bad because you should be shooting every turn and the bolt thrower is just as strong.
@ztech - April 15, 2007 09:32 PM (GMT)
I'd go with option C as well. It's more balanced this way.
You forgot to disable BB code... ^_^
Tyrion - April 16, 2007 08:00 PM (GMT)
Option C, seems like the best of the lot.

Taken from Khemri.co.uk
i played a teams tournie with dwarves as my ally a month er two ago- 1500 pts each (so total 3K, and we were aloud to take a lord character each)
our first game was against a double empire team with lots of knights and karl franz.
our opponents were incredibly frustrating- arguing every little rule they could (like children) and what would become the last turn of the game taking 30 MINUTES to declare one charge (circle knights choosing between my SSC or my friends dwarf lord and warriors block)- which would end up costing the next turn of the game (i was pretty pissed- they had no magic or shooting and we only played 3 turns in 2 and a half hours- i was rushing through magic and our shooting phases cause i knew we need to get to turn 5 or 6 to wear down all the 1+saves)
he finally chose to charge the dwarf lord block. His knights did alright- and then the lord that ignored armor saves completely whiffed, rolled two ones to wound. we lost the combat by one, and he failed his leadership by one because of my nearby SSC- the knights, sure enough, ran the lord and his warriors down, easily costing us the game.
All cause of -1 leadership (well, and the whiffy lords attacks)
one more turn and my TG would have done their dirty into his flank, but he took THIRTY MINUTes to deliberate one charge....
but the rest of the games were really fun.
dwarves and TK make a pretty good team- we were very shooting heavy (organ gun, 1 cannon, 2 bolts, 2 sscs) but it worked out well- people had no choice but to come to us.
i should say to that we got teamed together 2 days b4 the tournie- i had built my list to be a shooting complement to any army- as i didnt have a partner until 2 days b4.
from my experience i would suggest going a little more shooty if you guys feel comfortable with that. both your armies are SLOW, and you wont have that much magic to ensure incantations go off---- you also have the benefit of being able to play some games ahead of time to get your strategy together working well so....

EDIT
My list has been changed
Taken off Swarm and Plauges
Put in 3 carrion
now am at 746points

Ahem,
Burro Boskov's Perfect Dwarven List of Amazingness For the Double's Tournement
Thane Ovlid Bardagamaour- 152
Rune of Stone
Shield
Grudge Rune
Rune of Cleaving
Master Rune of Challenge
Oath Stone
19 Longbeards-243
Shields
Standard Bearer
Mus.
20 Warriors-225
Great Weapons
Full Command
Bolt Thrower- 85
1 Engineer
1 Rune of Penetrating
Bolt Thrower-45
Models- 47
DD- 4
Grand Total- 750
I'm really happy with this list, and not much is going to change if anything. I had to nerf one of the Bolt Throwers, although combined they actually cost more points.
The Warriors lost their ability to switch to shields, but that is ok, as they will just have to go with strength 5 only. Oh well.
Ovlid (Whose full name means Grudge Fighter in Icelandic) is an offcial Thane of Pain, rerolling hits against heroes at strength 5.
Over all, I love this list.
Burro Boskov
P.S. C and C still welcome
@ztech - April 18, 2007 08:18 PM (GMT)
Pretty good list indeed. Just watch your flanks.
Scaly - April 18, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
IMHO drop the grudge rune and the veteran from the warriors. Get those warriors some shields!
Burro Boskov - April 19, 2007 05:33 AM (GMT)
The grudge rune is so important though! I can make any unit with a character in it charge the longbeards plus Ovlid, then set the stone, challenge, and presto, reroll misses to hit against said character. At worst I will be wounding on a 4+ with strength 5, meaning I should be getting a Wound in each round.
Although, it has occured to me that it might be better to give him the Master Rune of Swiftness, so he can still dish out after the hero is dead.
I could get the points by dropping the vetran in the warriors and then the grudge rune.
Whaddaya think?

I say go for it. The MRoS is one of my fav (though I've never played Dwarfs).

Bad news Bears ... or um Palacites,
We tried to buy tickets today, but were unpleasently surprised to find that they were sold out about 2 weeks ago, on the first day they were released.
Did not realise the amount of people who would want to go! Either way, we know what to do for next year, and if we want we can do our alliance then instead.

Scaly - April 23, 2007 05:19 PM (GMT)
Well even though you can't go I say this the Master Rune of Swiftness is much much more valuable than the Grudge Rune.

Wow, those were sold out fast! Like Metallica tickets, just that it was 32 000 tickets sold in 45 minutes  . Look for tickets on the web, some may have other things planned and wont go, in that case they have to sell the tickets to somebody else (unless they dont want to lose their money).
