Title: Army list 1k
Description: Take a look
Burro Boskov - March 27, 2007 09:07 AM (GMT)
Thrgaka comes to my country in 3 long days, and I decided to write up a little army list. Perhaps a little battle report wil come of our battle.
Thragka, same discretion if you wouldn't mind.
Any way, the list.
Thane-78
Shield
GW
RoStone
20 Warriors-205
Shields
FC
15 Longbeards-205
Shield
FC
15 Rangers-205
GW
Throwing Axes
FC
10 Miners-160
FC
Steamdrill
Cannon- 125
R of Forging
This all comes up to under 980 points.
So we have 20 points to do with what we like.
Any suggestions?

Thane-78 Shield GW RoStone
Good, a little under protected but at this point level what could you do?
20 Warriors-205 Shields FC
Personally I believe this unit to be too small. Drop Veteran to shave points
15 Longbeards-205 Shield FC
Personally I believe this unit to be too small. Drop Veteran to shave points
15 Rangers-205 GW Throwing Axes FC
Drop full command and throwing axes both are unneeded on rangers. Str 4 with a 6" range is nothing to write home about.
10 Miners-160 FC Steamdrill
Definitely drop Full Command on these guys more than likely your giving Thragka 100 free VP when he captures this units banner.
Cannon- 125 R of Forging

Make my suggested changes and I saved you 110 points to add to your 20. I'd use them to bulk out the Longbeards and Warriors and/or get more shooting (maybe give the rangers X-bows?). I reccomend the following:
I'd switch the Rune of Stone for the Master Rune of Gromril on the Thane and get a 10 man unit of Quarrelers.

Seems like Scaly hit the nail dead on ^_^ . To small units and only main fighting units should ever have full command. Dwarfs excell in the shooting department so more of those, although I would go for the far more superior handguns. +1 to hit is simply awesome along with armour piercing.

While I agree that thunderers are probably the most effective shooters in the game (point costs excluded) and have their place. I do not believe that Burro has the points to devote to a 150 point unit (with shields) or even the minimum 140 point unit for that matter. Therefore I recomended quarrelers as a cheaper and many agrue, as effective, alternative.

Scaly covered it all in his first post. And just like him, I think Quarellers are better than Thunderers for your army.
The Rangers are not necessary. That's where I would cut if needed.

As Scaly said, 15 dwarfs is not enough for a dwarf unit try and make it 20 strong.
For the rest the list looks ok.

With comments in mind, I give you a completly new list.
Thane- 111
Shiled
GW
RoStone
Handgun
MRoTaunting
20 Warriors- 205
Shields
FC
19 Longbeards- 253
Shields
FC
15 Rangers- 185
GW
Throwing Axes
Musc.
10 Quarellers- 120
Shields
Cannon- 125
Total 999(I think)
Dwarfs-64(68 with Crew and Hero)
So I kind of went in a different direction here. Two strong fighting units, with the Thane to lead them. The warriors arent at 25 because I am quite happy with just 20, even though I know all the good reasons to make them 25. The fact is, I dont want to get more warrior models. So yeah.
Rangers are there to have some fun with. Throwing Axes will hopefully pay for themselves with one round of shooting and a stand and shoot reaction. They make the list a bit more versatile, and can hopefully pait a larger unit, or take out some pestering wolf riders.
Quarrelers and Cannon are there for shooting, quarrelers basically protecting it for the most part.
The Thane may seem a little strange right now, but I will explain. He can have a 1+ armour save it wanted, or strength 6, but thats not the strange bit. The Handgun is left over points being used, and I would love him to shoot down a fanatic. MRoTaunting has a few uses, such as setting up a trap to flank one of his units, to taking care of a trouble units, such as wolfriders.
What do you guys think of version 2.0?

Not bad if you like that style. As for myself, I prefer a couple of bolt throwers to one of those crude cannons. I must have some Elven blood...
Don't kill me. It's not my fault.
Burro Boskov - March 29, 2007 06:11 AM (GMT)
I usually do that too, but this time I feel like using a cannon. Its a lot more powerful, and has a higher chance of taking out a troll or giant or even a character.
Plus its a cannon!

I like the second list better.
What is the rune of mro Taunting? I can't find it my book.
Scaly - March 29, 2007 06:03 PM (GMT)
My guess: Master Rune of Challenge is what he means.
Tyrion - March 29, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
Itīs quite amazing how easy it is to make effective armylists with dwarfs :).
Scaly - March 29, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
It really is a good list for friendly play. In tournements dwarfs have a tough time because they have a difficult time getting massacres. On the other hand dwarfs rarely get massacred its almost always a minor win/loss in my experience.
Burro Boskov - March 31, 2007 09:00 AM (GMT)
Well Thragka is here, as is another friend. We are about to play this 1000 list against a combined list of theirs, each 500 points. So I'll be up against Chaos and Orcs and Goblins. I think I should do ok, becuase if I want I can sacrifice those rangers to get his knights out of the way for quite a few turns, and then take the rest of Thragka's army out.
So yeah, probably will post the result later.
