Well, I've got the army book, a few more models and the battalion, and am doing a begginnners course at the local GW, I'm going along Friday after school to pit the models I have (and some of the shops) against one of the staff who always seems to be there. He's gonna use some ogres and we have 1500 pts to spend. So without any more of all that jazz, here is the grand army I will field....
HEROS:
Paladin: Virture of Discipline: Barded warhorse: Lance of Artios: Armour of Agiluf.
Paladin:Virty of Duty::Barded warhorse: Gromril great helm: Biting blade: Banner of Chálons.
Damsel:Lore of Life:X2 dispel scroll
Damsel: Lore of beasts: 1 dispel scroll: Chalice of Malfleur
UNITS:
KOTR X 8 : full command, banner of conquerors tapesty:Joined by general
KOTR X 5 : full command: joined by BSB
Mounted Yeomen X 5: Full command, shields
Grail knights X 5: Full command
Men at Arms X 21: Full command/spears
Peasant bowmen X 16: Light armour: Champion:Musician: Skirmishers: Braizers
Just to start off, I need to mention that both of your Paladins are illegal, the cost of Virtues must be paid out of your magic item allowance. I'll get back to how you should equip these guys in a bit.
Two Damsels is a good start, magic could help a lot against ogres, however I'd ditch the dispel scrolls. If you are worried about gut magic, the best item to take would be a Staff of Sorcery. Failing that, the Chalice of Malfleur could also help you out. I say this because of the fact that they are all low casting value spells, your opponent isn't going to go for really big rolls when all he needs is a 3.
On your General... The Lance of Artois is a bad item against Ogres, they are not affected by Killing Blow. I'd suggest giving your General the Sword of Heroes so that he can take out the enemy leaders. Or if you want him to fight the regular ogres give him the Heartwood Lance, since it gives re-rolls to wound. Virtue of Discipline won't help you against Ogres, you'd be better off with magic items.
Your Battle Standard Bearer... I'd keep the Gromril Great Helm and combine it with the Sword of Might, it'll make him a competent fighter while still having the BSB bonus to give to his allies. He doesn't need a virtue to make himself effective, but if you want to, Duty is always a good call, just trade the sword for it.
The Conqueror's Tapestry is a bad item, you shouldn't be worried about victory points before the battle has even begun. If you play the game well, you won't need it, and if you get squashed it will just end up being points against you. Give one unit a War Banner and the other the Banner of Chalons (it'll come in handy against those Leadbelchers and Gnoblars).
As for your actual troops, they could do the trick. Two strong Lances, an utility Lance with the BSB, and the Yeomen for flanking should make sure you can break the big units when you need to. The Bowmen don't really need the armour or fire attacks, but if you don't have anything else to spend those points on it doesn't matter. Be careful how you use the Men-At-Arms though, they are very fragile and shouldn't be relied on to do more than just slow the enemy down.
If you can swing it, I'd try and get a third rank on that second unit of KotR, just because the extra punch could make all the difference when you need to break the enemy.
Good Luck, and may the Lady be with you.
OK then, If I keep all the units the same, then heres the heroes:
PALADIN: SWORD OF HEROES: ENCHANTED SHIELD: BARDED WARHORSE:LANCE
PALADIN: GROMRIL GREAT HELM: BITING BLADE: BANNER OF CHÁLONS.
DAMSEL: STAFF OF SORCERY
DAMSEL: DISPEL SCROLL: CHALICE OF MALFLEUR
OK, Heres the tactics:
Using the bowmen, I will try to weaken the enemies flanking units and ocassionally take a volley at the enemy generals unit to weaken them up for a charge by the grail knights and/or my general's unit. The mounted yeomen will stay on an oppsite flank of the bowmen, shooting flankers on that side and stopping the enemy flank that half of my army. The peasants will cover the bowmen from anything that could be a nuisance, gnoblars for example. I may put the damsels in their units for protection. The knights will charge the enemy when possible. The grail knights going for the centre of the enemy army, and the BSB unit going at one flank. The generals unit will try to get into combat with the enemys main units ASAP. With the lady in our lances we shall triumph!
An equally good choice against those tough Ogre heroes would be a lance and the Virtue of Audacity for the Paladin. But the choice is up to you.
@ Luc: The Staff of Sorcery is a pretty good choice against Gut Magic, thanks for the idea. I had never thought about it before: the Staff had always appeared a little too expensive to me. But now that you mention it, it's perfect against Ogre spells.
