Has anyone commented on the fact that a Grudge Thrower properly runed up is extremely reliable? Obviously Rune of Accuracy is a must as it makes the stone seem laser guided. But I submit to you the following set up:
Grudge Thrower
Rune of Accuracy
Rune of Reloading
Engineer
130 Points yes its expensive but lets look a little closer shall we?
The Rune of Reloading is an excellent buy at 1/10 of the cost of a Accuracy Runed Grudge Thrower and allows you to ignore 2-6 on the misfire table (The machine fires every turn regardless of misfires)!
That rune plus the Engineer ensures that this machine is extremely reliable. The Engineer only needs to reroll 1's as anything else is taken care of by the Rune of Reloading.
This combo (Engineer + Rune of Reloading) grants a 97% chance of surviving (versus 83%) a battle without a misfire that destroys the Grudge Thrower ! Making the Grudge Thrower at least 6 times more reliable than a grudge thrower without it (it can survive more than 6 games for every 1 a normal grudge thrower does).
And that's only catastrophic failures that blow up the machine! Let alone all the missed turns of not shooting (rolling 2-6 on the misfire chart). All this for 25 extra points? This is how I am running my Grudge Throwers from now on.
Anyway I hope I am not the guy who just "discovered" the effectiveness of this combo. Did I just miss the boat on this, why haven't I heard about this combo before?
When I have the spare points, I set it up like so.
Grudge Thrower
R of Accuracy
R of Penetrating
Enginner
MEnginner
-235
I know that is a lot more expensive, but its a lot better. It will hardly ever misfire, as the ME allows you to reroll the artillery dice, EVEN if its a misfire. The other engineer is there just in case you roll two misfires in a row. The rerolling of the scatter dice is of course there, and then the R of Penetrating. I didn't think of this combo for a long time, and picked it up over at bugmans to tell the truth.
You have strength 5 for models affected, which against T3, makes it more likely to kill, and against T4 orcs, 3+ is really good. But then the model under the center of the circle, is taking a S10 hit! Its now strong enough to take down everything in the game!

I have used that combo before but I believe it is too expensive points-wise it costs the same as 25 warriors with standard and musician.
