Yes, once again I'm asking for comments on a Khorne army. rofl. (I seem to do this with some vague semblance of regularity, I know, but I like getting comments to find stuff I've overlooked.)
I am still waffling about reversing one recent change (recent as in post-FAQ with the no-mount-frenzy-from-Khorne-mark ruling), but I think I like this version better anyway. Also, remember I play in the US, where composition scores play a major role in tournament scoring, so I have to keep away from extreme cheesines/beardiness. Anyway, here 'tis:
CHARACTERS
Chaos Lord, Mark of Khorne, The Black Maul, Gaze of the Gods, Enchanted Shield, riding a Juggernaut. 405 pts. (goes with the Chosen knights)
Aspiring Champion, Mark of Khorne, Battle Standard Bearer, Armor of Damnation, Sword of Might, riding a Barded Chaos Steed. 206 pts. (goes with the 2nd knight unit)
CORE UNITS
5 Chaos Knights, Chosen, Mark of Khorne, Full Command, Banner of Rage. 370 pts.
5 Chaos Knights, Mark of Khorne, Full Command. 260 pts.
5 Marauder Horsemen, Musician, Spears, Shields, Throwing Axes. 106 pts.
5 Marauder Horsemen, Musician, Spears, Shields, Throwing Axes. 106 pts.
5 Marauder Horsemen, Musician, Spears, Shields, Throwing Axes. 106 pts.
6 Chaos Warhounds. 36 pts.
6 Chaos Warhounds. 36 pts.
SPECIAL UNITS
3 Minotaurs, Mark of Khorne, Great Weapons. 183 pts.
8 Chaos Furies. 120 pts.
RARE UNITS
4 Dragon Ogres, Light Armor, Great Weapons. 316 pts.
Total Cost: 611 + 1020 + 303 + 316 = 2250.
7 dispel dice, 55 models, only 27% characters and over 45% core.
Basically, this army has 3 serious hammer units, with the Minotaurs almost reaching that level. I've also got a lot of fast harassment units, between the fast-cav axe-throwing marauder horse plus the Furies for warmachine hunting duties. The warhounds (plus the marauder horse) are used to screen my own frenzied units, both from missile fire and to block myself from getting drawn into charges I don't want to make.
The Lord has the Black Maul to give himself Frenzy from a different source than the Khorne Mark, so that his Juggernaut can get the extra attack. Plus it gives him S7, which is nice for chariot hunting, and wounding things that're T4 or higher. The initial variant of the army, before that frenzy ruling, I'd given him the Great Fang as a weapon, the warhound units were 5-strong each instead of 6, and one of the Marauder Horse units was 6-strong instead of 5. All in all, I think I like this version better, though, and even with the extra 10 pts for the weapon, I still ended up spending less than 10% of my total on magic items, which is a good thing for comp scores.
I decided on the Juggernaut for the mount for the Chaos lord, because a) the model looks cool, B) it gives him SOME ghost of a chance of being able to stand up toe-to-toe with a full unit if he's forced to solo-charge something by frenzy, if his unit is blocked, and c) it gives the knights some miniscule extra charge protection, as anyone who wants to charge the unit is technically having to charge a fear-causer, and thus must make a LD check, etc.
Anyway, opinions? Comments? Suggestions? Would love to hear 'em...
Hmmm....look's pretty good. The only quip on my part is the lack of chariots: not only do they add dispel dice, but they also would complement the hitting power of your knights and dragon ogres (not to mention that, if broken, they won't be panicking any of your units).
Other than that, again, a nice, mobile, hard-hitting list.
Sorry to commit Thread Necromancy and resurrect this post, but I've been playing this list for a while, and have been growing in my disappointment over the performance of the Minotaurs in the list. So, I am trying to figure out a good replacement for them at this time.
So far, about the best I've come up with is remove the minos, and downgrade the Banner of Rage on the chosen to the War Banner, and pick up a Giant.
The problem is, I'm not overly fond of giants, having used one before, and it costs me a dispel die, taking me down to 6, which makes my magic defense pretty fragile.
Another possibility would be to replace the minos with a khorne marked chariot, and find some use for 43 points. Problem there is that single chariots rarely in my experience accomplish much, and what with frenzy, it could probably be pretty easy to force charge it into rough terrain. Still, it'd definitely be seen as a threat, and if combined with something else do some good damage. If Ic ould fit a character in it, I'd be more likely to do it, but getting the character would cost me one of my marauder horse units, and I don't think it's worth it.
So, ideas?
I think you should just take bigger units.
Furies excluded, your biggest units (Warhounds) have six miniatures. And the biggest units that can actually kill something (Chaos Knights) have only five, which makes them a bit vulnerable despite their T4 and high armor save. The 4 Dragon Ogres are good enough (they have 3A and 4W after all), but you definitely could use more knights.
Yes, knights are expensive $-wise, I know. But since they're also expensive points-wise, maybe you won't need so many of them.
As beeing said, beefing up the units a bit and more chaos hounds wouldnt go amiss either. Other than that, the list looks really good :).
Your list has plenty of hard hitting units. But it lacks numbers. I play a korne army but with beast, you should try it sometime. Get a lot of minotaurs. My current army has three units of four. With minotaurs don't buy a bearer or champion. Give them great weapons and the mark of korne. That's 16 strength 6 attacks. If you get the hang of them, they are really deadly.
Why 6 warhounds? Make it 5. They are mainly charge blockers and decoys. Keep the furies, they're a must have for everyarmy.
Opinion/ try out an all beast army. Better movement and they have ambush. Many units are also cheap.
