Title: New official Errata plus Q&A are up

http://us.games-workshop.com/errata/errata.htm

Some random items that I found noteworthy:

1) "Tactical" wheeling to get the charge direction you want on skirmishers is perfectly legal.

2) Frenzy granted from the Mark of Khorne is SPECIFICALLY excepted from granting mounts extra attacks. (ie, khorne marked cav, chariot horses & ridden monsters get NO extra attacks from frenzy. Any other frenzied model does, however.)

3) They cleared up how skirmishing units flee from ranked units.

4) Enemy In The Way was cleared up a lot.

5) Characters on foot with Magic Shields but ordinary hand weapons *DO* benefit from the extra +1 armor save for using HW + Shield.

6) If the only model a unit in combat can contact is a champion, the champion is the ONLY model they can kill, they can't touch the rank & file.

7) Optional rules judgements for dealing with clipping on charges.

There's also a Q&A/Errata up for the new O&G book available at the same link destination.

How has the beastman Ambush rule changed?

The errata says the ambush makes up for beastmen getting no rank bonus (their most unique, powerful rule was as a ranked skirmish unit). IIRC, Ambush means the turn up from any table edge later in the game doesn't it: has that really got more powerful?

Because of the change that auto-destroys a unit if it flees through a US5+ unit that is in a straight line behind it away from the unit that caused it to flee.

For most armies, it's pretty hard to get significant amounts of US5+ units entirely behind the enemy's battle line. For Beasts, it's rather trivial. Thus, you're much more likely to be in a position to be able to auto-destroy fleeing enemies, especially since the herds are skirmishing and can spread out, to occupy more space to REALLY ensure it.

So, that's what's so much more powerful about ambushing in 7th than before. Do note, by the way, that beastmen STILL get their rank bonus, if they're fighting a enemy unit of sufficient size to allow for ranking up 5-wide. Nothing changed that rule whatsoever. So really, the only places where beast herds wouldn't get their ranks is if they charged single models, flanks of a 2-rank infantry unit or 1-rank cavalry unit, fronts of most chariots, etc. Charge a ranked unit with the herds, you bet you'll get your rank bonus.

I thought that the O&G FAQ included a lot of stupid question. For instance: do savage orcs/black orcs count as "orcs" and do night goblins, forest goblins count as "goblins". Of course they do! :D
