Title: Shadows of the Midnight Glade
Description: 2000pt Army list and army fluff
Paymaster - February 25, 2006 01:37 PM (GMT)
"The Midnight Glade is part of Athel Loren that is constantly cloaked in an unnatural darkness."
The glade is close to the Northern borders of Athel Loren.
The trees around and inside the Glade are Wild and Dangerous and have no love for any living thing.
Few Asrai are foolhardy enough to go there and it is a quiet and forbidding place.
The spirits who live in the glade were corrupted when Gyrnaeth, a tree spirit of great age slew a champion of the dark gods, the spilling of such evil blood corrupt the glade, since then the spirits have had no relations with anyone, elf or man, slaying all who wander too close.
One impetuous spirit by the name of Synthais decided that the bloodshed of those who would harm them was not enough, she and her dryads have begun launching raids upon unsuspecting Asrai patrols, taking on the form of young elf maidens or fellow warriors. Leaving one survivor in each raid to tell of the evil elves.
The most recent raid resulted in three survivors as a group of Horsemen, who's deformities showed that they were clearly from the same glade managed to route the shapeshifters. They made haste in returning to the the trees they had appeared from. They maintain an uneasy alliance with the other spirits in the glade. Their heroic actions that day earned them the title of the Redeemers.

I quite like it, your whole army is almost a forest itself... just the 5 mounted dudes stick out from the woods, lol
Do you have it? all ready and painted or is it a 'work in progress'?

I'm going to try to make it for an army building challenge happening in April at my local GW. 250pts per week. I haven't got any of it yet and have to find a job in the next 2 months without having to skip Conflict.

It feels to me like it would be a boring army to play. It just looks like it's missing something. Perhaps add Drycha or another unit of wild riders, more mages etc.
I'm sure it is powerful on the table (though foes immune to psychology might cause some problems), I just don't think the list is interesting.

In sticking with the army fluff Drycha wouldn't make much sense and more Wild Riders doesn't help the fluff either.

I say you need some more magic defense. I admit, I don't play wood elves so I have no idea what 'Cluster of radiants' is, but in 2k, one lvl 1 wizard can't be enough magic defense. I say drop a unit of dryads and get another one. I am assuming that they cost around the same, but I have no idea because the points aren't listed.
Other than that, looks good.
Oh, I see, is a treeman ancient a caster as well? That would help things, but in that case I would still like another character in there.

Drycha sucks. She's far too easy to kill: T4, 3W, and no save of any kind. NEVER take her.
A Treeman Ancient special character (like Durthu) would be nice.

Not completely true - she does have the Forest Spirit 5+ Ward Save.
You might indeed notice your magic defense is not good enough, but I don't think an enemy's magic will really hurt you in this army. A special charachter might indeed be nice, but a normal Treeman Ancient should do just fine too IMO.

Just to point out that this topic is about a year old. You might not get a response from it. ;)

*posts a response, just to contradict Thragka*
I had forgotten about the 5+ ward. Still, it's not what's going to save her in a long close combat. A good armor save is often better than a low ward save. Not always, but often. But of course, Drycha can't wear armor... that would look weird.
A Treeman Ancient is good enough. But I'd sure like to see Durthu, with something like Strength 7, 6 Attacks and 8 Wounds...

*God damn it!*
There are rules for Durthu somewhere, but they pertained to the 5th or 6th ed woodies, so they aren't in line with the current treemen rules. And the thing with Drycha is that every model in her army has the Forest Spirit rule. Thus they all have a save that is negated by magic attacks, and so every (competent) opponent you'll face with her will be bringing SOME magic, either weapons or just wizards.

I myself find a Grudge Thrower with a rune of burining or rune of penetrating most effective agaisnt wooden woodelves. I start a nice little kindling collection.
