Nice one, nice and neat.
I dont play 40k so dont know its fluff but to me looks a little clean, maybe add some dirt onto the sole of the foot and a bit of rust or oil leak here and there... but a little dot of orange into each eye to make them 'glow'.
Otherwise, a nice job.... what are you going to do with the base?

On the whole they're amazing, I think the shading on the white is just perfect, in fact all the shading is great :thumb:
The colour scheme looks a little odd to me. I realise you're basing it off chapter drawings and don't have much control over it, but it looks a little too bright. Perhaps it's just the camera focussing on the dark background, but in my mind there doesn't look like much contrast between the blue and white.
Actually, I think it is just the camera: the first picture looks weird in this way, but the lower left one looks perfect.
edit. However, the contrast problem can be seen on the bones and scrolls: for example on the white knee or the scroll on the chest. Perhaps if you painted the kneepads a different colour (black or red maybe) it would not only make these details more obvious, it would make the whole model more interesting.

The bases will be done the same as the rest of the army, like the base in the pic below actually.

Very impressive face work. Makes me feel downright scared of getting to the faces on my new (read: redone) space wolves. I've converted them so nicely, if I may say so myself, don't want to ruin them.
Couldn't give a step by step could you?

The skin was done with Dark Flesh and Elf Flesh, working up in successive layers from one to the other. Highlights were done with Elf Flesh. Just make sure you don't get any in the creases along the face, leave that with Dark Flesh for some contrast. It's fairly simple, and luckily, I have said how to do the faces elsewhere so I just had to copy and paste :D.
2 things I need help with:
1) I need a colour for the lightning claws
and
2) What should I write, if anything, on the scroll thing on his chest?
Xarhain - February 20, 2006 11:26 PM (GMT)
Nice, thanks.
For his chest. Does he have a name? Or his unit has a name? Or Guilliman?
I like the lightning claws as they are. Too many people try to make them look all electrified and blueish. (guilty). It can look good, if you do it right, but I don't know. Like I say, I'd be inclined to leave them, especially as it might clash with the bluey/white thing you already have going on. Saying that, it might work particularly well because of that. I guess you could try it?
Or go green lightning? Or red? Ooh yeah red. Red would look gooooood.
Khrangar - February 21, 2006 12:25 AM (GMT)
I think I'll do them DA Green and work my way up. The capes and clothing of the marines are already going to be a dark red so I don't want to use that on the power weapons as well.
What about Liche Purple for the weapons?
Xarhain - February 21, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
Purple yeah! Go purple. Mace Windu/my wood elves syle. ^_^
Did you know that if you say purple really slowly, it sounds like gullible?
Luc_Arkhame - March 2, 2006 01:38 AM (GMT)
Really? Puuuurrrrpulllll HEY!!!!!! You lied to me!
Anyway...
Pretty spiffy looking.
Methinks the lightning claws should look as much like cold steel as possible with maybe a few sparks of an electric colour, I don't see purple working very well, and a dark green may be too muted on the metal.
I'm not sure, but the model may look a little better if it was dirtied up a bit.
As for the chest scroll, you should probably ask Drauthnir to delve into his Latin books for a suitable word.
Khrangar - March 2, 2006 02:51 AM (GMT)
I'm just worried the claws would get lost in the hilt or whatever it is that they are attached to if they were to be painted silver.
As for dirtying it up, I had thought of that, but I'd probably screw it up and white is a pain (for lack of a better word on this forum) to paint, so I don't want to mess it up and have to do like 6 coats of it to get it back to the original colour.
