Title: interesting 1.5k winter war list
Derek101 - December 22, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
OK, here's my list for winter war, I like to think it's different from the blocks of clanrats, here it is:
chieftain- hvy armour, shield, warpstone amulet, bands of power- 101
warlock- all optional upgrades, dispel scroll, storm daemon- 145
warlock- all optional upgrades, 2 dispel scrolls - 145
30 clanrats- spears, f/c, ratling gun- 265
33 slaves- pawleader, musician- 78
4 rat swarms- pestilens upgrade- 260
8 night runners- throwing stars- 56
1 giant rat pack- 30
6 gutter runners- black skaven, poisened throwing stars and h/ws- 120
5 jezzails- 100
4 rat ogres- 200
total 1500pts, 6PD and 2 bound spells, 4DD and three scrolls
I tested the list out today on a (more than) unlucky dark elf general; still a good game, and found some learning points:
1. rat ogres aren't that good
ermmmm, thats about all I learnt actually ^_^ , but I thought I'd share the list with you anyway, see what you made of it. I also have a few objections, so lets see what we have in common as I hope to retain my title from last year. :D man, that was cool.

There are surprisingly few units for a Skaven list, probably because of the Jezzails, Rat Ogres and Swarms, but it has a bit of everything. It's shooty, magic-heavy and it has some close combat abilities. And like all Skaven armies, it's cheesy, but this is a quality for the ratmen. So yeah, it should be effective.

yeah, that's true, but they all (apart from the rat ogres) work well, and I couldn't win any games without my swarms.
I was considering dumping the rat ogres and giant rat pack (I had a spare 30 points and did not have enough slave models) for a unit of roughly 20 strong stormvermin, it allows more options for my characters to hide in, but I have had no real success with stormvermin either <_< .

:D I can see you tried to avoid this road of 'yeah, skaven are just beardy and unfair' and thank you for it, as I suppose you're right, cheesy is a skaven quality. Skaven are an army of risks but most of the time, I suppose the odds are higher for the skaven general to win big, rather than loose big. To be fair, if you want a magic heavy skaven army, you have no choice but to be slightly cheesy by having no other choice than to take a warlock. But you may have noticed (in my defence) that I have bought three dispel scrolls, showing I'm trying to get magic for the defensive part of the phase.
well, thanks for the comment, any others?

hmm strange comments  , still down to mine of course.
nice army, i have to say most i see know have 2 warlocks which IMO is not too bad as skaven are a powerful magic and shooting army, still i would recomend you make your warlock naked (take of his magic items) the give the storm daemon warlock a warpstone amulet instead of a dispel scroll to protect from back firing warp lightining.
i will try to get round to posting more after christmas! yey ^_^
