Iv been playing Tomb Kings for a while and have always used a King, what im wondering is which one do you guys prefer, the King or the Liche High Priest?

I prefer the TK for a couple of reasons.
First, I have a real good fighter. I find S5 to be a lot better than the Prince's S4, as the King can reach S7 with a GW (or Destroyer of Eternities), and with other weapons like the Spear of Antharhak S5 is is also much better than S4.
Second, usually TK's dominate their magic phase by far. Often the HLP's immense casting power isnt needed. Depnding on how much magic defense the enemy has, 2x 1d6 could be just as effective as 2x 3d6. The King cant heal, but I leave that to the normal LP's.
Third, it has a few advantages for army composition: Chariots are core and skellies can take a magic banner. Especially the chariot thing is important, because the TK special slots are all very good and I dont want to have to leave out carrions, scorpions, TG or Ushabti (though I use latter not as often as the other choices) to get chariots.
I must note though that I seldomly play under 3.000 points, so usually I can take both the King and the HLP anyway. Id definitely try out the HLP and see how it goes, it is certainly not a bad choice. But my preference is the King.

I dunno, if I played TK. I'd probably go with a High Lich: the Tomb Kings are pretty much driven by their powerful magic, and having a High Lich and a couple of Lich Priests ensures that their magic phase will be all but unstoppable, allowing you to out-manouver and out-shoot your opponents at will. A Tomb Prince can be relied on to give you some close combat clout, as he can still use "My Will Be Done" and is about as durable as a Lord-level character to boot.

Hi there,
I use HLP almost exclusively now for a few reasons.
1) First of all its the concentration of magic that counts with TK. Against canny opponents, the critical incantations WILL be dispelled when cast by a king and/or a priest together. 4-5 DD gives you a fantastic chance of stopping that game winning flank charge for example.
Where as the HLP is all but unstoppable, especially after turn 1-2 when you chew through the scrolls. A HLP and a prince in one location basically gurantees a sucessful incantation with at least 7-8 DD needed to stop it. After a few times when those critical incantations get blocked, you realise how much flexibility a HLP (and his much greater power of 6PD) gives your army.
Remember its all about the concentration of incantations that count. Not just the number.
2) HLP iis much easier to protect as your army has fewer mages. More power concentrated in fewer mages= much harder for your enemy to get rid of.
3) In a lot of roles, a TP will suffice rather than he much more expensive TK. Especially when in a chariot...
Right now I run HLP, LP, TP in a 2k list. In 2.25k I go with HLP, LP, TP, TP. Which I find is a lot more flexible than TK, LP, LP, LP/tP
4) A Tk isnt all that good despite his cost. We lack the magic item combos that others get.
5) Chariots are overrated. 1 unit is the most you would want in your army. Anyway its a good incentive to increase your percentage spent on 'core'.
I'd go HLP all the way, but I suggest you to try both and see which one suits you.

I use a TK for the same reasons as Funky but also because I simply can't refuse any standard character with four Wounds.
