Title: DE errata
Description: Need an update

Hey guys it's been a while but i'm getting back into the hobby. Going to dust of the legions of primed dark elves and kick some ass.

Anyways i remember a few years ago that the dark elves got an update with a few minor changes. Anyways i can't find the rules so any help would be greatly appreciated. I remember something about warriors being cheaper, one of the spells no longer needs LOS but that's about it.

They can be found here.

Yes, the warriors are cheaper... a LOT too cheap! Think about it, an Imperial spearman costs 6 pts and a Dark Elf warrior who has the same damn equipment costs 7 pts... while the Dark Elf has +1 M, +1 WS, +2 I and +1 Ld, not mentioning that he hates High Elves... for only one point more! That's so unfair...

Later, I'll also complain about the Chaos Marauders having the same cost in points as Bretonnian Men-at-Arms but being WAY better stat-wise, but right now I'm angry enough about Dark Elf warriors. Let's think about one thing at a time.

This is a kind of comparison you just can't make, @tzech. You have to look at a unit in the context of the army. Sure, the dark elves may be more cost effective, but what role do they fill in the context of the army? Generally, DE are an agressive, lightning-quick army, and a unit that relies on taking the charge to be most effective doesn't have much of a place. Thus, the cost was reduced, broadening the uses of spearmen (throwaway units, small holding units...).

Empire spearmen, on the other hand, fit in with the overall theme of most Empire army. A denfensive army, they generally rely on shooting, lots of troops, and detachments to win battles. The downside of taking a charge is reduced when you have a couple cheap units sitting next to your spear block that get to flank charge the charging unit and strike first in the combat. If the empire spearmen were dirt cheap, they would just be too good, besides the fact that they have the detachment rule incorporated into their cost. Its this kind of complaining that really gets me upset (no slight against you, as I know you are intelligent and generally add constructive, well thought posts): taking units out of context and simply comparing statlines.

I think I've talked long enough, and ranting about marauders/MAR would be OT and unecessary.
