Title: Quetzle Sacred Host
Description: 1500pts list
Xarhain - November 18, 2005 10:55 PM (GMT)
I had an idea a while back that was basically using the quetzl sacred host list to make a converted lizard army, with bony potrusions, spines, plates, extra scales etc. Recently I got some greenstuff, which I'd never used before (used blue tac & superglue for joint filling) but now I realise how awesome it is, I think I'll be able to do the aforementioned conversions.
Quetzl spawned warriors are described as having extra bony bits, thick scales, and bony spines potruding from arms. I'm going to be using my newfound greenstuff skills to make these extra spines and plates, adding them to my already done saurus and skinks.
Problem with the quetzl list, everything gets spawnings, which is good but costs points. To find the points I'm jiggling round my conflict list a bit, losing some equipment and magic items, but getting what I feel is a more powerful and characterful army from it. Here's the list:
HEROES
Saurus Scar-Veteran 149pts
Light Armour, Quetzl, Tepok, BSB
Saurus Scar-Veteran 148pts
Great Weapon, Light Armour, Shield, Quetzl, Tepok, Charm of the Jaguar Warrior
UNITS
10 x Skink Skirmishers 75pts
Options: Blowpipes, scout, Quetzl
10 x Skink Skirmishers 65pts
Javelins & Shields, Quetzl
10 x Skink Skirmishers 65pts
Javelins & Shields, Quetzl
19 x Saurus Warriors 288pts
Full Command, Quetzl
19 x Saurus Warriors 300pts
Champion, Quetzl, Tepok
3 x Kroxigor 174pts
3 x Terradons 105pts
2 x Salamanders 130pts
Total = 1499pts
Power Dice = 2
Dispel Dice = 5
I think the list mostly speaks for itself. I don't have the best magic defence, but 5 dice at 1.5k isn't too bad. I do have quite a few mage hunters, as well as the majority of my army being that much tougher due to quetzl. The points saved should allow me to have the numbers to destroy my foes in close quarters.
I think that's about it. What do you guys think?
EDIT* Added BSB, dropped 1 saurus and standard.

very nice army, similar to my own in many ways.
i have a freind that uses sacred hosts alot (mostly Quetzl and Tlazcotl) and from these aremies i find they are very effective to use, and play against.
a nice well rounded list, and it seems pretty fair too as you dont have any mages which means no opponent may call your army beardy.
one thing i would recomend would be to give your saurus JSOD a shield somehow as he will be running round the battlefield and with a 4+ it's not soo good, possibly taking of the scouts ability on your skinks, or swapping this guys shield with the other scar vet's.
the only thing i was about to say was change your list if you fight undead or demons, but of course you have no mages, well rounded list.
Good luck with the army, hope my small advise helped :thumb:

I just stumble upon something in the army book that I can't believe I missed first time round. The battle standard bearer upgrade. That would benefit my army so much, so the first saurus is turning into one. He can't use the GW, so thats dropped, or the shield, so thats going to the JSoD like farsight suggested (2+ save vs shooting!).
I'm also dropping the standard in one of the units, because the BSB counts as one, and dropping a saurus in the other unit. This is gets me the points I need, as well as enabling me to hide the JSoD again. I figure that with the other being a BSB, it might look like the JSoD is the general who's just going to stick around giving ld to the lines, so I may be able to surprise people. It also allows the BSB to go to either unit, whichever seems to be heading towards the thick of the action.

see every little helps ^_^ , i fell a bit sorry for the poor scar vet carrying the standard, only light armour to help him out (this isnt a suggestion merely a comment) still now this army is hard.
do you know what you will convert the saurus with or too, as you said about bony protrusions? i.e. what components.

He's still T4 with a 3+ save, not all that vulnerable.
Conversion wise, I'm going to be using greenstuff quite a lot, because I've fallen in love with it, but also loads of spikes, painted to look like bone. Spikes are easy to come by, from the skink/sarus weapons and bits, dryad sprue. My mate does tyranids, probably nab some off him. Make some from spare bits of sprue. Raid my bits box etc.
It's going to be fun. :D

i keep forgeting that they have Quetzl when i look at the army  , still yeah he is still nails in combat so no worries, also he's not going to be likely to be picked of from shooting as he can hide next to a unit. i know that your not a new player or anything but remember to watch how close your character is to a freindly unit, i dont know how many times i forgot to posistion him correctly and got my scar vet killed of by bowfire -_- .
also i was waiting for you to say that, with the tyranid parts, the armour plates they have are higly effective, i have used them on my catachan's as shoulder pads (representing nid hunters or veterans) but anyway, you could always use the gaunt shoulder pads on your saurus to make them more bony, in case you dont know what i mean the pads come on a smaller sprue with all upgrades aswell.
this could possibly help with the bony protrusions, it might be me but the pads aren't used that often so you could try to nab them of your mate ^_^
