this is my first empire army list, i have all the models unfortunetaly only some of them are painted seeing as i am in university and i am quite lazy, and i dun like painting, but anyways hear is my list. ps it is supposed to be a defeated crusader army that has gotten lost or seperated from the main army and they have been travelling and adventuring for some time now. anyways the list.

General
Knight Captain Holste(50), Pegasus(50), Fullplate(8), Sword of Power(40), Enchanted shield(10), Longbow(10)=168pts

Captain of men-at-arms otto schepke(50), full plate(8), Great weapon(4)=62pts

Battle Wizard Mitka(60), Second level(35), 2X dispel scroll(50)=145

20 Free company with full command=125pts

20 free company with full command=125pts

5 knights of the inner circle (130), full command, Warbanner, Fearless upgrade from white dwarf 309(10)=205

Mortar=75pts

5 Pistoliers=95pts

total points=1000

so there it is it is ment to be a small group of lost knights with there men at arms and thier hired wizard. with thier small artillery train

my thoughs would be to put the captain with one of the two free company to hold the line and then to use the knights and the pistoliers to crush the flank of the enemy using hold anf flank tactics, whie useing my captain on a pegasus to punish warmachines and wizards hanging behind the enemy battle line. I figure the enchanted shield and sword of power are a good combination as with the enchaned shield the captain gets a 1+ save which should keep him safe from most missle fire, i was also toying with the possibility of giving him the sword of might and the dragon bow for sniping(but thats not very knightly), i was also wondering about adding in and engineer to help my warmachine. anyways that is all i would appreciat any feedback or criticism no matter how small or large.

thank you for reading it -aaron

Hmm... speaking solely as a player of Bretonnians, this is the kind of list I love to face, one that tries to do too much when it has so little to work with.

The pegasus, not entirely necessary, as the job that such a model can carry out should already be taken care of by the pistoliers, who are much better suited to the task anyway. And as for his save, it's actually only a 2+.

The Militia I don't like either, they have absolutely no staying power, even in such high numbers. At least with the state troops you can get some armour in there, and if you use spearmen instead you will likely get more attacks each round of combat (except when you charge).

As for the Knights, 5 is only suitable for flanking, but the problem is, you have no lure for such a trap. If you let anything else in your army get charged, it'll likely break, leaving your knights out of position. Again, state troops are likely to solve this problem; or take either greatswords or flaggelants, since both are hard to break in one turn.

If you need to free up some points, consider some of the following: downgrade wizard, remove warbanner, ditch second hero.

IMPORTANT

Try out your current list first though to see if it works, and if you find you can make it work well enough, stick with it and ignore me, don't worry, everyone else does.

Welcome to our site.

Right, your mounted captain. My first suggestion is to drop the longbow ASAP. 1 S3 shot isn't going to do much and it doesn't really fit the knight theme. Second, drop the Sword of Power. Due to his speed he should really be getting the charge most of the time so a lance will do the do the job just as well. With those spare points you should probably get him the White Cloak because a 2+ AS (not a 1+, as pegasi don't give an AS bonus) isn't going to do squat against a cannonball or bolt thrower.
Your second captain seems fine, although I'd be tempted to give him the Rod of Command if you had the points.
Your wizard seems all right as well, although it all depends on how much magic your opponents tend to field.

I'm not sure about your choice of infantry as free companies, with their lack of armour and high attacks, tend to make better detachments. If you can, try to replace one or both the units with spearmen or swordsmen as they're much better at taking a charge.

Now, your knights. Do they really need that much spent on upgrades? If your using them for flanking then there's really no need for a musician so drop him. Is the war banner really necessary? If they hit the flanks they'll be negating ranks and, along with the damage they'll be doing with their lances, they shouldn't have any trouble breaking the unit as it is. As to the fearless upgrade, well that really depends on what you'll be facing most often.

If you have any spare points, you should maybe get a marksman with a repeater pistol for your pistoliers, as an extra three S4 armour piercing shots/attacks are not to be sneezed at.

Since you said you had these models i assume you wan't to use them. So... The pegasus captain could probably get by with a lance instead of the sword of power which gives you points for dragon bow? Which is not any less knightly than a long bow. The pegasus is also not really necessary wirth the pistoliers. Your knights are a fairly strong hammer unit although if you added one more or a hero they would be pretty awesome in 1000pts, if your just flanking they could be downgraded but you don't really have any units to set up a flank charge with (flaggies/state troops). A marksman and reapeter pistol for the pistoliers is also a good investment of pts. You don't need an engineer and i doubt you'll find the mortar very effective a cannon would probably be a better idea.

Good luck with the empire and school.
