ok so some of you will say that this should be in the battle report section, but this aint going to be the usual battle report. but there was a lot to learn, as a woodies player or the opponent :)
ok, I faced a lot of shooting
Noble
2X10 glade guards
7 scouts
12 dryads
5 or 6 glade riders
7 wardancers
I had
1 necromancer
2X24 zombies
20 grave guard
2X6 ghouls
5 ghouls
3 fell bats
totaly 950 or so points per side. god invocation and vanhelīs dense.. spells.
I got the first round and started my slow advance towards his lines. my fell bats got a charge on the scouts with on the second turn (magic didnt work in the first round <_< ). but my luck turned away from me and I could not hit a thing, luckily they werent wiped out by CR at least.
during the first rounds I got peppered by arrows and took HEAVY casualties. for instance 14 dead zombies in one round :ph43r: at least I had my flanks covered and coul bait the wardancers out of harms way with my ghouls.
hmmm, there is one very weird (and cheesy) magic arrow in the wood elf magic items list. Dragon tooth arrows that will make oneīs model stupid. we played it wrong since I thought that would make whole units stupid, but that is to be used just against single models so both my zombie units were stupid  but at least thatīs been cleared now, just checked it out, oh well forget it :P
one funny (disturbing for me <_< ) thing was when I got a little help from magic and got to charge my grave guards into his dryad unit. I thought this would see the end of the dryads right there, no chance he could win this. guess what? I proceeded with failing to hit a squat, in return he kills 6 (!!!!) grave guard and wins the combat by one point. not everyday you get to charge a skirmish unit with oneīs best unit and lose the combat  eventually tho they were broken and ran off the board.
also my zombies made it into combat and both glade guard units were put to the sword. I had a bit of luck tho, his noble had charged into my depleted zombie unit in hopes of taking them out. well my standard bearer survived, raised a little reinforcements and used the bound spell that allows you you to strike first and hit on 3+. that was one dead noble :)
well the game ended in a draw and some points are to be learned.
1) do NOT underestimate wood elf shooting, ever.
2) wardancers are lethal, dont hope to destroy them even if you get the charge.
3) dont have as bad luck as me and hope to god that your opponent dont have as much luck as mine had.
4) read through the wood elves rules thoroughly so that you dont have any missunderstandings that could cost you the game.
5) infatry based armies will have a very tough time against wood elves. he didnt even have all that nasty stuff yet :ph43r:
6) altho shooting is very effective with woodies, the enemy will eventually get up close and then they are dead. dont invest too many points on shooting. he was pretty lucky to kill as much as he did actually.
I guess thats all for now that I could come up with :) wood elves really are a very tough army to face, thatīs for sure.
I am just itching to see an undead general fall to the arrows of a unit of ten waywatchers.
Its gonna be sweet. Go on, hide your general in the woods (best place for him/ for us, with our treesinging spells!)
best place for undead generals (vampires often) is inside big blocks of troops where the waywatchers cant get them :P
Wow, my 2 favorite armies. I can't wait to see what the bigger battle report will look like...
Once all the Treemen and Vampires come out...hehe.
Wood Elves are an extremely bad match-up for Vampire Counts. An army of immune-to-psychology skirmishers with multiple S4 attacks, led by an average general, can really make a mess of things. Essentially you won't be able to get into combat until the WE player wants you to, at which point it's flank and rear charges galore. You can hope to get a couple of Vanhel's Danse, but that's by no means a certain way of getting into combat. I found them a very frustrating army to play. I can't see that there's a lot a VC general can do to force the win barring an error by your opponent.
Cheers,
