Title: beastmen 1000p
Description: would this be any good?

Tyrion - October 2, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
Beastmen 1000p army

Characters

Wargor: additional hand weapon, horn of the great hunt, chaos armour 104p

Shaman: extra level, staff of darkoth 135p

Core

Beastherd: 12 gors, 8 ungors, additional hand weapons, full command 151p

Beastherd: 12 gors, 8 ungors, additional hand weapons, full command 151p

2X5 warhounds: 60p

2 chariots: 170p

Special

3 minotaurs: great weapons 138p

6 furies: 90p

Total: 999p

an alternative would be to change that shaman for a slightly cheaper battle standard bearer with the armour of damnation for example. any other ideas for how to operate beastmen at 1k is as always welcome. post your lists if you have better ones B)

Take out the warhounds and furies and get a bestigor herd for combat power, (A good list, otherwise).

yeah, been thinking about bestigors, but they are very expensive and quite fragile. if I take away the hounds and furies, that would leave me with 150p. could only get a unit of 10+ or so. the hounds act as living shields for the rest of the army and the furies are there for warmaschine hunting.

also iīm not sure wether to use the ambush rule in such a small game, what do you guys think?

farsight - October 3, 2005 04:07 PM (GMT)
no, dont take out the warhounds IMO as they can ambush aswell so sending a unit of them along with a beastheard can seriously disrupt an enemys plans.

as for the furies i would say that they are good but i havent used them so am not sure how well they will fare, too be honest i would keep them and see how it goes

good luck with this army and may the gods watch over you ^_^

ooh yeah instead of bestigors why dont you take chaos warriors with great weapons? i think they are about the same but the warriors are more costly in points

well, yes that is kinda the problem here :P that is points that I dont have. also I want an all beast army (furies are an exception) so that means no chaos warriors.

I also belive that those hounds are a vital part of the army, would like to have one more unit of them. maybe Iīll skip the shaman and take something more useful for the points instead, dunno yet.

I want my army to be intimidating due to itīs size, that along with the possibility to ambush really can make an opponent start trembling in his shoes cos he dont know what to expect. thats the beauty with beastmen :)

To be honest, I don't think the list needs changing, it is practically perfect in my eyes but I would probably try and find some way of getting a scroll on your shaman.

For combat power, TBH, you have enough, two chariots, two beastherds, a unit of minotaurs and furies for annoyance, what more do you need; besides, beastmen were never meant to be used for static combat so yu don't need the ranks and you'd just loose your manoueverability.

Overall, good. :thumb:

I think this list is really nice and balanced. If I were you all I'd do is take out the furies for something else, they don't quite fit in with this list.

ok, so I came up with an alternative list, just that itīs 19p over (fixed).

Beastmen 1000p

Heroes:
Wargor: additional hand weapon, chaos armour 74p

Core:
Bestigor herd (15): full command 210p
Beast herd (15): 8 gors (2 hand weapons), 7 ungors (spears), full command 119p
Beast herd (15): 8 gors (2 hand weapons), 7 ungors (spears), full command 119p

5 warhounds of chaos: 30p
5 warhounds of chaos: 30p
5 warhounds of chaos: 30p

Tuskgor chariot: 85p
Tuskgor chariot: 85p

Special:
3 minotaurs: great weapons 138p
5 furies: 75p

995p

well, this army has slightly less models in each unit but then again has more units that the last list. also only one character, but it should do well anyway. the question is what to drop to get it down to 1k.

farsight - October 4, 2005 07:25 PM (GMT)
good stuff like the 15 man bestigor unit, nice and hardy.

just remeber to tell your opponent you are 19points over so he can also add on 19p to his force, everyones happy ^_^

Tyrion - October 4, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
true, or just remove 19 points, just that its pretty hard to choose. guess it would be some odd command model or so in that case. everything else seems to be quite vital in this army.

the horn of the great hunt could be removed also if itīs tight. remove the horn and add chaos armour for some additional protection. that would add up to 999p on the dot :) ok, one less point of Ld for arriving units in ambush, but that test could be failed either way, really.

good idea, never really knew what the horn does, but i suppose you could always take it of as it isnt vital, plus if you did what it was before of the opponent being able to add 19pts on it could be some sneaky magic item which would annoy you, if its skaven anyway ^_^

Tyrion - October 5, 2005 02:17 PM (GMT)
yeah and I mean, if one is playing a 1000p battle, then it should be 1000p. not 19 points over. for me a couple of points over is no big deal really, thats ok. but I guess they are a bit harsh on that sort of stuff on tournaments and the like :) but im really happy with this army I have so Iīll start from there :)
