Thought it would be good idea to just have a thread for sharing tips and advice about assembling all the new Wood Elf units that are coming are way.
I have just finished assembling my first box of Dryads ( took about 4 hours ! ;- I was watching tv too), and I was lucky enough to of read other members debating how tricksy they were to assemble... 'I pay attention' and so following Xarhains words, didnt even bother with plastic glue and just used super glue, even then there were a few tricky bits
There are 4 body types with the Dryad sprue and one of them has really rubbish feet, it may as well be standing on one leg. So, superglue is a must, and a good little tip is to use one of the small 'waystone' pieces, glue it to the base first, and then you can glue the gammy leg to the waystone and the good foot to the base.
My second tip is to glue in the 'back branch' before glue'n on the head, saves a lot of juggling around.
My final tip (after finally being one over by the arguements to have a Branchnymph) when they all look much the same as each other, how do you mark out the leader? Right from the beginning I picked out all the biggest bits, best body, biggest arms, fiercest head, and bulkiest 'back branch' and put it all aside to be my Branchnymph; finally, with all the extra bits at the end. (you get 3 owls in a box) I chose to use only one owl and put it on the Branchnymph, so that my future opponents can know, from the beginning, which dryad is the leader. (its the one with the owl)
Anyone got any other tips about Dryads or any other new Wood Elf units?
Treekin are particulary painful to put together, but probably not as much as the dyrads. This is because the legs of the treekin are seperated so this basically means, if you want both legs level on the ground you have to glue 3 spots and hold it together for about 5 minutes. First you have to glue the joint which attachs the legs, and also glue the bases of thier feet, then with some manouverability hold it together and press down on the base, making sure that both feet are touching the ground.
It took me about 20 minutes to glue together the treekin, and about 1 and a half hours to paint. Now all I need to do is paint thier bases.
WARNING: make sure all parts are in the particular box/blister when you buy them as it seems that GW has rushed packaging in some parts. As when I first went to buy a treekin, I got home only to realise it had no torso/head and had 2 of the same arm. Just always keep the receipts as well.
EDIT: just a question, how many dyrads do you recieve when you buy a box, is it 12 or 16?
12 Dryads to a box and some nice extra bits too, really useful for converting characters with, so I would recommend buying Dryads before you buy the models that you want to try your conversion skills on... it'll give you a lot to play with.
BITS; owls, waystones, skulls with spites on them, other spites; also all the spare 'back branches' can be trimmed and used to look like branches shooting up out of the ground...another nice feature for a base.
about the tree kin, wouldn´t it be smart to pin the pieces together here as with all "big guys"?
I guess, but seeing as I dont have the skill to pin as of yet, I couldnt ^_^
