Title: Waywatchers? worth having?
gracelessloser - September 24, 2005 09:16 AM (GMT)
Just trying to build up my army and was wondering what are the Waywatchers good for?

Dude, they are one of the best things in the Wood Elf army (which is why they have been classified as RARE)
They are practically invisible, your enemy suffers an additional -1 to shoot them, and at short range (a massive 15 inches) their arrow shots are Lethal, any 6's equals an instant wound with no armour saving throw allowed. If you had a unit of 10 Waywatchers, shooting at a general within 15", potentially they could kill him instantly...also the 'Lethal Shot' is brilliant against armoured knights with 1+ saves as all 6's will kill them.

Waywatchers rule.

I agree with burp here, they are very very good and also one of the coolest units in the whole game! they are expensive pointwise, but it should not be too hard for them to avoid any unwanted enemy attention due to their special rules. well worth having IMO.

It looks cheesy. I hate scouts, and the Waywatchers are even worse...

I think if you could get hold of the older models they are better.
Not for me however, with 2 Treemen, 2 eagles and an army worth only about 1700 points, my rare choices are stretched enough as it is (although when I'm done assembling my batallion box I should have 2000 pts).

Small amendment to what I wrote above... they are even better.
because they are difficult to see, the enemy has -1 'to hit' when trying to shoot at them; but, they are also skirmishers, so thats another -1 to hit...So just as standard your enemy is shooting at them with a -2 to hit penalty...which is cool
Of course, the downside is that they are unarmoured, so they really are better off shooting from 15" away (but they come with two hand weapons and a Longbow so if they do get into combat then they have 2 attacks each.)
They are brill, just dont send them into hand to hand combat against the wrong enemy; keeping them skirmishing 15" away (preferbly behind soft cover (that'd be -3 to hit) and thats they best way to use them.

And hope like hell they don't have any life or heavens magic.
