This is all theoretical to me and not an army I have played with yet. I am used to large blocks of troops with goblins etc. So was going to say that your units look small; but then you have said that 'who needs ranks?' I guess you are right. Wood Elf armies are more about ambush than open warfare so Ranks of trrops doesnt feel right, I agree.

Other than that I dont know how you can resist the awesome punch of a unit of Waywatchers. I'd have them and one Eagle, not two eagles...

...but I havent really given it a lot of thought as it will be next summer before I have a Woodelf force to fight with. I am curous to see how you do though and to learn what does and does not work.

It looks conventional, but strong: I like! Not too WAACY, which seems quite easy to manage with the new WE, but strong, with some nice, flavourful touches. Only a couple of thing's I'd pick up on...

>I'd point out that you might like a champ in the Wardancer unit to soak challenges for your general. I know he has the Annoyance, but there are still situations where you'd rather have him fighting troopers - for example, if a unit champ challenges in order to cut back the number of kills you can inflict, or if you run up against someone with an auto-hit weapon, or if you would simply rather that your Matrix elf was racking up CR by butchering troopers than bouncing his puny S4 attacks off some insanely heavily-armoured hero character... I know that you can get a Scar-vet with a -1+ save, and re-rollable jobs are even nastier.

>I don't rate warhawks at all. You're a Lizzie player: simply cross-reference every aspect with Terries, and then compare costs. I'd drop them: not only do I feel you could use a tad more bowfire to sling around, but you need some scrolls: if you could afford a unit of five scouting Glade Guard or so, and a scroll or two on one of your mages, then you would bolster your magic defence and give yourself a bit more of a respectable shooting phase, while retaining the disruption element.

Thanks for your feedback guys. Plenty to think about.. :P

There are two things keeping the warhawks in my list at the moment. The first is the models, I love them. I'm converting the riders to get rid of that "surfiness" and they're looking awesome. The second thing is US2. It's the only thing they have better than the terries, but it can equal 2 combat res when they grab a rear charge. Other than that I just really like them. I really enjoy playing with my terradons, so I couldn't miss the opportunity.

Speaking of missed opportunities, I know Burp, waywatchers are awesome. They were always in my plans for expansion to 2k, but when I actually did it, I couldn't find enough points for them. For me a unit of 5 isn't doing them justice, and it's the best I could have been able to afford. As well as the fact I needed another rank breaker, so the 2nd unit of wild riders were in. I do plan to include waywatchers in other armies though. Wood Elves are going to be the massive force I can pick and choose from, not the army I collect to a list and then stop. (like my lizards).

About the wardancer champion, the only way I could do it is to drop a wardancer. I only have the musician in there because I had 11pts left. I understand what you're getting at though. I'll try some games out, see if it comes up often enough to worry about. I am worried about the small size of my wardancer unit already, so I'm not sure if it would be worth losing another model. (oh and remember, I've got a killing blow dance for that insanely armoured scar vet ^_^ )

As for scrolls, I had two, but when I hadn't used the rare slot for waywatchers, another eagle is too tempting. Hopefully it'll make up for the magic vulnerability. I do have plenty that can hunt mages down (hawks, 2 eagles, alter noble, glade riders)

And next summer Burp? I didn't realise it was that long term. Why?

9 months aint long term.

Anyway, because, (contrary to popular belief) I also have a real life! (plus I'm trying to build up a unit of Black Orcs (20 of em!)

But I will follow your example and go for a box of Dryads soon... I am curious to see all the 'bits' that can be used for conversions.

Hehe, cool. I appreciate you looking upon me as someone who's example you'd follow. :)

And 9 months not long term? Aint it? Well I guess time passes quickly when you're old..

:P :P

Well, you have 26 points left...why don't you buy a scroll or something?

I would consider using a Treeman or a Treeman Ancient. I know that they don't look that impressive, because of their high point cost, but they are well worth it(Maedros can back me up...). Plus they come in very handy if you encounter dragons/hydras etc., and most flammable stuff can't wound them.
